BlogHer in San Francisco
by Amy Lenzo

I find myself registering for BlogHer '08 in San Francisco this morning, even though I can't actually find any content about who's going to be there or what the presentations are going to be... My experience of BlogHer '06 in San Jose alone was enough to get me to fork over the money and sign on the dotted line.

I think we as women have something important to contribute to the world today, but too often we don't speak up. Events like BlogHer help us find our voice and the ways to bring it forward into the areas that matter to us. It helps us find new mediums and formats, but most of all it helps us find allies and colleagues.

One of the things I most loved about being at BlogHer '06 was to see how rich and varied our passions are - food, sex, technology, family, politics - and to have them all addressed in one venue was very cool. That's what real life is like - all this stuff mixed up, and all of it important in its own way or time.

An understanding of inter-relation within diversity seems to be somehow particularly connected to a woman's way of knowing, and runs counter to the deadening personal/professional split that characterizes much of the mainstream cultural view. The fact that BlogHer offers a more integrated design makes these events pretty unique.

I can't wait to see what we'll do together this year.
