UPDATE: Congratulations to our two scholarship winners Nikki True and DivasandDorks.com!

Next month, July 8-9,  the fourth annual Blogging While Brown will take place in Los Angeles, CA, and for the fourth time, BlogHer is proud to be sponsoring the event.

Blogging While Brown

This year we're doing something a little different with our sponsorship. In addition to sponsoring a breakout session entitled "From a Side Hustle to a Career", we are providing two Blogging While Brown scholarships, that include:

-A pass for Friday's kick-off keynote and welcome reception and all Saturday sessions
-Accommodations for two nights at the conference hotel

You can check out their site and agenda here. I can tell you, having attended two of the last three conferences, that it's a wonderful event...for the learning, inspiration and of course, like any great conference, meeting smart, savvy, fellow bloggy people!

So, here's how it works:

If you can get yourself to Los Angeles on July 8-9 (yes, that's in two weeks) and would like to attend courtesy of Blogging While Brown and BlogHer, leave a comment below telling us why you want to attend Blogging While Brown and which session looks like it will be most valuable to you. We'll pick two entries at random on Thursday, June 30.

OK...go!

I'd love to attend blogging while brown because I'd love to atten the sessions as much as meet with other bloggers. Since my blog is about culture and parenting I believe this would be a great conferene to be a part of. The Vlogging while brown and from a side hustle to a career are the sessions that are most appealing to. I would lov to learn how to be vlog as well as making my writing a career. good luck to all :) hope to see you there!

I found out about Blogging While Brown about a month ago, but knew under short notice I wouldn't be able to afford it. I'd love to attend the session From a Side Hustle to a Career, because that's exactly what I'm doing at this point. I hope I get picked :) It'd be an amazing experience.

I've been blogging about the Caribbean-American experience for almost 4 yrs and really need the knowledge and guidance provided by BWB to help me tighten up my blog ( rewindandcomeagain.blogspot.com) and take it to the next level. Many panels would be helpful but I think Bootstrapping Your Way to Hyperlocal Media Success is the key session for me. Learning how to build an enthusiastic and loyal local following is key to success and longevity in the blogsphere.

I love to write. I love words, expression of ideas, conversation and creative communication. I've been blogging off and on since 2009 and I'm finally ready to get serious. I've really enjoyed committing time and energy to my blog "For Future Reference" [http://www.greaneggznham.blogspot.com/] and see the Blogging While Brown conference as an opportunity to interact with and learn from other nascent, emerging, and established bloggers. All sessions sound highly beneficial, but if I had to narrow down my choices, I believe I would most benefit from:
1. "Efficiency vs. Effectiveness: Practical ways for dealing with Information Overload Online"
2. "Keeping Your Authentic Voice When the Noise Gets Too Loud" and
3. "From a Side Hustle to a Career"

I thank you for sponsoring this amazing opportunity!

I would love to be considered for the scholarship, and think Vlogging while Brown would be invaluable to me. As a blogger and academic, I want to use the vlog to speak out for STD testing, but have been apprehensive to associate my name and face with such a controversial topic without some idea of how to manage that aspect of my identity. Socybride's gotta speak!

I look forward to attending the From a Side Hustle to a Career & Infusing Traditional PR Methods with Social Media. Both of these sessions seem to provide tangile information on how to take your blog to the next level.

I hope I win; but, if I don't congrats to who ever does. Either way, I hope to see you in L.A!! :)

I am a Chef and Nutritionist. I recently started my own food-themed bike touring company in Denver, Colorado. As an extension to my company I want to start a blog about Urban Biking and Small Kitchen, Big City cooking. Biking is considered a lifelong sport meaning people are able to participate in this sport throughout their whole life. To me the best part of biking is that it is also transportation and you really don't need a lot of fancy equipment, skills, or to pay club fees to get started. I also would like to increase the participation of women and minorities in a sport that is overwhelmingly male. Anyway, I think I would greatly benefit from the sessions on PR and efficiency.

Thanks
for your consideration

as www.commercialmommy.com ( http://www.commercialmommy.com ), I have spent my 7 years in LA reaching out and helping parents of children in the "biz" with their questions and concerns. My family has been blessed with success, and I have been focusing on paying it forward. I need help in utilizing the law of least effort! That is, what is the best, most efficient way to get my word out, and be compensated for it! I think that the two seminars that would best assist me are: From a Side Hustle to a Career and Bootstrapping Your Way To Hyperlocal Media Success.
My ultimate goal is to help other people of color affordably penetrate the business of being in commercials, etc., earn money for their children and create a new legacy!
thank you for your consideration

I am the publisher/owner of Beats & Ballads, a video website based in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. Currently, Beats & Ballads highlights urban music talents that visit the D.C. & Baltimore areas through performance footage and interviews, and specialize in offering concert ticket giveaways; but in the future, it is the hope that Beats & Ballads will expand to cater to the needs of urban music fans in the area through sponsoring live music events, music panel, and media events that will better connect artists with their fan base in the DC area.

This is my first BWB conference and since starting my website in April 2011, I've been nominated for 'Best Video Blog' in the Black Web Blog Awards so I am totally humbled by this entire experience. I am eager to network with my peers and gain knowledge from those I've admired over the past couple of years as I've watched their media successes.

I am looking forward to Keeping Your Authentic Voice When the Noise Gets Too Loud because I struggle to ensure that regardless of opportunities that come my way, I do not compromise my vision. I am also looking forward to Infusing Traditional PR Methods with Social Media, Live Blogging 101, From a Side Hustle to a Career, and of course Vlogging While Brown. I think these specific panels will be most helpful for me going forward.

I hope you choose me as a scholarship recipient because I promise to take full advantage of this opportunity in every way possible.

Thank you!!!!

Many of this year's BWB panels reflect collectivity that empowers our effective presence in the blogosphere. I for one want to learn and be a contributing partner with the BWB community. I am public policy advocate/writer who hosts a local public radio call in show in DC. For awhile I have been planning to launch a blog covering the intersection of race, religion, and policy. There are a few such blogs out there. "Get in Where You Fit in!," would aid me re: approaches and best practices. Other panels also help to navigate many voices -- noise/ loudness, information overload, and joining other social platforms to blogging. 2011 in LA is an exciting opportunity.

It's our one year anniversary of DivasandDorks.com which means that within this past year, I let go of my cushy corporate media job to follow my dreams of blogging about fashion, tech, travel and more to women everywhere! The "From a Side Hustle to a Career" session epitomizes my current standings as a fairly new blogger and I would absolutely LOVE to participate! I'm praying that you choose ME!

I think I would make a great candidate for the Blogging while Brown conference because my Blog has a unique voice that I think the public is waiting to hear. My blog http://www.knockturnalemissions.blogspot.com/ is all about my thoughts on my life and day to day experiences as a Masculine of Center lesbian woman. The sesions I would benefit most are From Side Hustle to Career, Black Accuntabilty, and Boot Strappin your way to local success. I feel that these sesions will help further my abilty to really do something special in my community by making the voice of an invisible sector of people heard

I want to attend because I am a new up and coming blogger who has a lot to learn. This looks like the perfect place to network and grow in the area of blogging. The session would be most valuable to me is "From a Side Hustle to a Career" as I would love to one day earn a living as a blogger.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I'd love to attend the Blogging While Brown conference this year. The session on Vlogging While Brown would be great to attend and learn more about vlogging best practices. Gosh- so many of the sessions sound great to me- Hyperlocal Success, from Side Hustle to Career, but being a political junkie (and big fan of Color of Change) I would say I am most drawn to Keeping it Real- looking for more ways to bring the political reality into my writing, even as a "food" blog. Hey, food can be very political!-and I think food blogging should be bringing in m ore of this.

I would LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! the oportunity to attend this conference. I recently graduated from college and am still finding myself in the PR industry. But I'm learning that blogging and social media is where it's at!! The sessions "Infusing Traditional PR Methods with Social Media" and "Bootstrapping Your Way To Hyperlocal Media Success" would be very beneficial to me. But I also think "Keeping Your Authentic Voice When the Noise Gets Too Loud " sounds very interesting. If chosen, I can definitely see myself making the most of this experience!

Thank you, Blog Her, for offering this opportunity. And, even though the winner is selected at random, I feel every wonderful blogger here has just as good a chance as any at “representing” at Blogging While Brown.

I’m new to the blogging world, but a passionate writer and researcher. I set up shop with “Your Kid Plays Soccer, My Kid Smears Poop,” aka www.Sockitmama.com ( http://www.Sockitmama.com ) in April for Autism Awareness Month because I really wanted to contribute to the autism community and share upcoming events in Southern, Cal with other autism moms. It has proven to be a wonderful experience and one I intend to grow and develop. But, my blog is more than autism: it is also about living a life with two wonderful children and a great husband, in spite of our Special Needs. I bring in music, YouTube, commentary, books, TV shows and films that I like to share with others and really just kick it up and allow folks to think about certain things while enjoying their read. I believe that having a disability or Special Needs should never stop people from trying to live life to the fullest. And, I want people to know that families raising children with disabilities are here among you and we're just like everyone else. Please don't ignore us...give us our props.

I’d be interested in going to as many workshops as I can. But, of the ones mentioned, these three sound particularly interesting:

1. Presentation: Strategic Partnerships: How to Play Nice with Others for Mutually Beneficial Results

2. Technology Keynote: Efficiency vs. Effectiveness: Practical ways for dealing with Information Overload Online

3. From a Side Hustle to a Career (this one in particular).

Again, thank you!

Sincerely,

Sockitmama.com

I have so many reasons why I should be selected to attend Blogging While Brown - from my obsession for learning from such speakers as Angel Laws to to desire to re-connect with some of my blogger comrades such as That Tech Chick & JewelsFabLife.com. As an east coaster flight tickets are beyond sky high to reach California but just today I was offered a trip to California to attend a conference 2 days before BWB. This was an absolute blessing especially since now all I have to do is register and get a hotel - Which is exactly what you're offering!! The best coincidence is that you're announcing the winner on June 30th --- also known as DivasandDorks.com 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY! If I was to win this opportunity, not only would I attend the "From Side Hustle to A Career" (considering that I left a prominent 10+ year career in media to pursue blogging, this would impact my journey tremendously)...but I'd also use this opportunity to share with my fellow blog sisters, everything I've learned so that they may enhance their journey as well! PRETTY PLEASE PICK ME!

About 6 months ago I put this conference on my calendar and told my friends I AM GOING - with no idea how this would happen, as I'm between jobs. I didn't come up with the money, but I never did admit that I'm not going - denial, I guess.

I believe this conference will help me to focus my blog and turn it into my vehicle to deliver my health message to others. My blog is Soul Food Therapy -(http://soulfoodtherapy.blogspot.com/). I'm a registered dietitian who loves to eat and cook and I'm working hard to balance those loves with my love of good health. I imagine there are others who would love to learn the same balance. If I have to pick one, I would benefit greatly from the Vlogging While Brown session, as I intend to add healthy cooking sessions to my blog.

I will be holding my breath until the winners are announced. No, I'll fast from sweets - not that that's any easier. Oh lawd, wish me luck!

Refuse to leave this Earth without getting, being, and doing all that you came here for.   Renee Simpson, RD, Culinary Therapist

I would love to go to the Blogging While Brown Conference! I am between jobs right now and want to use the extra time in more creative pursuits. Starting a blog for me is the perfect way to use my creativity along with my background in technology. Many of the sessions will help me in thinking about how to get started and finding my niche but I believe that "From a Side Hustle to a Career" will be most helpful in that I would like to know more about how blogs can make money/provide income.

My blog (Black, Divorced and Virtuous) provided a platform to stretch out and share the moments through and after divorce and how to walk through a detrimental event and not implode. While it is fairly new, I have been blogging for two years now, and I need the experience of blogging while brown to go to the next level of blogging. I need to meet other bloggers, gain from their success stories, get educated, and listen and learn. I know I have a niche blog, I just need to learn how to market and design to reach the audience that is ready and waiting.

I would love to attend From a Side Hustle to a Career, and the Survivors Breakout session. I would most definitely benefit from the Beginning Bloggers boot camp.

I've been blogging since 2007. This year, my 4th year blogging, I decided to invest in conferences, most notably, SxSW/TxSCC and IFB/NYFW. Though giving me an opportunity to network with other bloggers, I'm still trying to figure out monetization for my very niche site (www.fashioni.st ( http://www.fashioni.st )). I think the break out session "From a Side Hustle to a Career" would be the most beneficial to my blogging career at this point in time. Thanks!

I want this so I can figure the best way to begin my journey.

With more than 40 running groups across the nation (and hopes of going international in the next month or so), Black Girls RUN! would benefit from the "From A Side Hustle to a Career" session. We know that if we were able to commit 110% of our time to Black Girls RUN! and its running groups, we would have more opportunities to help dispel so many of the myths that hold black women back from being healthy and fit. We've got lots of ideas. Let's make it happen!

First of all, thank you so much for sponsoring these scholarships. I'm new to BlogHer and I can see already that this organization remains true to it's roots. Helping two people get to the Blogging While Brown conference is awesome and commendable.

While I think I could benefit from many of the sessions, I would be most interested in attending the "Get in Where you Fit in!: How to Find Your Niche". I'm a fairly new blogger with diverse interests and a unique style. I cater to all audiences and I'm happy with the impression I've left on the blogosphere thus far, but attending this conference could really help me improve my skills and make helpful new connections. So PICK ME!! You won't be sorry!!

I created my blog back in September of 2007. At the time I looked at it as more of a hobby. As a plus size woman I was acutely aware of the difficulty of finding fashionable items in my size. Thus my blog was born as a way to share the places I shopped and bring attention to designers/brands that make plus size women a priority.

The blogosphere has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. There are so many successful bloggers who I have admired and watched grow their influence online. I am incredibly inspired by these bloggers and am now interested in really growing my blog and turning it into a brand for myself.

This scholarship would be a great opportunity for me to attend the conference and learn from the best. There are some great seminars being held and I am most interested in attending
From a Side Hustle to a Career.

In any event this is great scholarship and I am so happy you are offering this!

I just saw the link for this on my friend Tracey Friley's facebook page and felt led to check it out. I have been blogging for over a year and it is a blog about my family and the crazy things we do. I would love to come to your conference and feel the session "From Side Hustle to Career" since I was just laid off from my job and am wanting to find something that I am passionate about and not just another job. There isn't anything I love more in this world than my children so maybe that is what I should be doing writing about the "Young and the Crazy" as my older daughter calls us. Lol!

Que Fregados 5 pts

I have never had the chance to attend a BlogHer event and this one sounds so perfect, although I like to think of myself as more bronze :P than brown.

The session I would most benefit from would be the "How to Avoid Getting it Wrong or Being Sued: Journalistic Best Practices for Bloggers."

My blog is not monetized, it is just a simple hobby, but I have sometimes ruffled feathers in the last 1.5 yrs. It deals with border (US/Mexico) life, issues & culture. Because I have sometimes been the one with "breaking news" (ie. I snapped photos of the FBI confiscating records in a county scandal, I was the first to list which nonprofits were in trouble with the IRS, etc.) even though I am not mainstream media & that is not the intent of my hobby & I don't have training in journalism and the law - I think being better prepared for the "what ifs" is in my best interest.

I hope to be given the chance. I work part-time after recovering from a severe accident (I started blogging from my wheelchair while relearning to walk) so my schedule is flexible. I don't have the means to pay it all but I am pretty sure I can get myself there.

Good luck in choosing amongst all the great entries!! V. Garcia

I believe the Blogging While Brown conference is just want I need to jump start a career as a professional blogger, that's why the seminar "From a Side Hustle to a Career" is right on time. In my blog "Miss Jane" http://janesthename.blogspot.com/ I write about arts and entertainment and culture, and just about any topic I think should be discussed. My struggle is I have a lot to say on varied subjects, yet I think to get a consistent following I need to narrow my focus more. The seminar “Get in Where You Fit in! How to Find Your Niche” would be perfect for me. I wrote food essays for the website of a chef for a few months. I'd like to venture into creating a food blog, but I need the tools. The seminar "Food Blogging 101: Key Ingredients to Establishing a Solid and Respected Food Blog" would be invaluable. Additional seminars that would be helpful are "Stategic Partnerships: How to Play Nice with Others for Mutually Beneficial Results," and "Efficiency vs. Effectiveness: Practical ways for dealing with Information Overload Online." Thank you for your consideration.

I feel like this is a time of growth for my blog as a business and I could truly benefit from the "Side Hustle to Career" session, among all of the other fabulous sessions and networking events that will take place at BWB. I really hope to be chosen, and thank BlogHer for this amazing opportunity!
