Fark Tells Readers that Rape Jokes are Not Okay

Outgrowing Your Blogging Space While You Still Need It

I didn't start my blog intending for it to have an expiration date. I don't think anyone does. But that is what happens when you write a goal-oriented blog. It happens with cancer blogs where the writers are each hoping for remission, or weight ...more

Amazon Fire TV: Farewell Cable Bill, Hello Great Viewing

For years, I've obediently paid my cable TV bill. And then moved, paid for a new installation, and paid some more. And paid as the bill went up. And then moved, paid for a new installation and... well, you get the picture.  Of course, my cable frequently went down due to what the computerized robot that always answered the phone at the cable company called "an unavoidable widespread outage." So when I read about options that would allow me to say farewell to my cable bill and hello to expanded show coverage as well as movies, I was intrigued. I only have basic cable, which means I get five channels and pay a ridiculous $35 a month for that privilege.  I decided to try Amazon Fire TV. ...more

How to Use Instagram and Make it Your Blog's Best Friend

If you read the blogging better series, you know that I am a H-U-G-E advocate of using social media to market your blog. I talk a lot about Facebook and Twitter, but it kind of begs the question: what about Instagram? The truth about Instagram is that it is one of the fastest growing forms of social media, especially where blogging is concerned. It might seem counter-intuitive because you’re using photos instead of direct links, but Instagram is really a great space to grow your audience. If you can take a photo with a phone, you can use Instagram. To help you get started – or to take your account to the next level -- here are a few best practices to follow. At least, follow these if you are looking to grow your audience. ...more

IN AND OUT OF THE WOODS

I'm back from the woods again. I can feel the vibrations of busyness as I enter the city limits - the hum of electricity and traffic. I can smell the aroma of fast food and concrete along Idylwyld Drive. The quiet and coolness of the woods are left far behind - along with the sweet scent of spruce pine needles....more
