Who Attends Blogging Conferences? This Girl!

I watched via the internet (especially Twitter!) as the bloggers I was getting to know attended the conference again in 2011 (San Diego), 2012 (New York), and 2013 (Chicago). Each year I found a good excuse not to go. San Diego was the closest the ...more

Reasons to Buy (or Not Buy!) a GoPro 3+ Camera

Everything You Need to Know About Backing Up Your Blog

A few years ago, I paid a designer a lot of money to build a fancy custom design on my Wordpress website. Unaware that I was not to tamper with any plugins or settings, I performed a routine update of my plugins, even the ones that I wasn't familiar with. All of a sudden, my site went from a thing of beauty to something resembling a broken 80's video game. I tried to fix the glitches, but it only made things worse. I had nothing backed up and no way to fix the mess. The only thing left to do was wait until my designer responded to my desperate pleas for help. 72 stressful hours and many more dollars later, I was up and running again. If you have a blog, you must protect your data. This is a post about the less sexy side of blogging, but one that could not be more important: backups. ...more

BlogHer '14 Opening Video: "I Am BlogHer"

BlogHer '14 kicked off with a video that showed us in words and pictures and—most of all—faces what it means to be ... us. The community. The past 10 years have brought us together to start important conversations, support each other and reach through the ether with virtual hugs and comfort when one of ours stumbled and fell. Whether you're here with us right now in San Jose or watching along at home, you are our community. You are BlogHer. ...more

Underage? Not anymore.

TREAT JUVENILE RAPIST AS AN ADULT AND PUNISH HIM AND IF PROVEN THEY SHOULD BE HANGED. #HANGTHERAPIST He's young. Not quite an adult.  Attends school, plays sports, reads young adult novels and prefers eating junk food. Sure, there are bad influences at times - a cigarette here, some bad words there. But he's still young. Not quite an adult. Or so you thought....more

IT IS THE EVENING OF THE DAY

I'm hearing the melody of the Rolling Stones' As Tears Go By.  I don't know why.  Songs come to me much as words do - from out of the blue.  I'm singing the first line, It is the evening of the day.  And it is the evening of the day but I'm not shedding tears....more

Blogging Better: What To Do When You Have Writer’s Block

As I delve further and further into the world of freelance writing as part of my career, I find myself encountering something that many writers dread: writer’s block. And it’s honestly one of the most frustrating pieces of my job. Because some days, the creativity just flows, and I feel like I could write fifteen articles in a row, no problem. And then I have days where I really have to push myself to get just one or two pieces done....more
