Pathfinder Day Made a Big Conference Feel Small

Pathfinder Day

BlogHer '11 was my first blogging conference. Some have asked me if it was overwhelming to attend such a large conference, especially as a first time attendee. I am able to honestly answer that I never did feel the largeness that the numbers of BlogHer '11 would suggest (4,000 attendees!) and I know the reason for my feeling at ease: it was arriving a day early to BlogHer to attend Pathfinder's Day.  Read more

Did BlogHer ’11 really come and go that fast? This time the week before last, thousands of attendees were packing suitcases, boarding planes, and planning which sessions to attend. And now ... now you have met dozens (hundreds?) of new-to-you bloggers. Now you have spent time discussing cyberbullying, or maybe body image, or maybe photography, or maybe social media platforms. Now you have met some of your tribes(wo)men, be it other military bloggers, or other twitterholics, or other modern marthas, or any other of the many, many Birds of a Feather meet-ups held throughout the weekend.  Read more >

Why We Need This Cyber Village: BlogHer '11

BlogHer Voices of the Year

I have long been inspired by my favorite line in E.M. Forster’s Howard’s End, “Only connect…” And this last weekend at BlogHer, I saw those two words take on a life of their own. My friend Eden was a Voice of the Year keynote speaker. Standing in the dimly lit ballroom as she read, photographs from her blog post projected upon huge screens, I realized that if not for BlogHer, this very moment would never have happened. Not like this.  Read more >

At BlogHer ’11, each breakout session and keynote had its own twitter hashtag. This way, attendees could include their tweets in the larger #BlogHer11 stream, or they could hyper-focus on panels with things they were learning, people they were meeting, what they were doing, etc. A number of attendees have requested a full list of conference hashtags, so we’ve included them in the table below, organized by breakout session.THURSDAY, AUGUST 4th  Read more >

BlogHer '11 Recap: It Really Was "Life Well Lived"

BlogHer '11 Asher Sears Photography

I've attended a lot of BlogHer events, (six main conferences and three food conferences), and BlogHer '11 was by far my favorite. I've also written a lot of BlogHer conference wrap-up posts but the BlogHer '11 wrap-up post has been the most difficult to write. I can't just say "Best. Conference. Ever." even though a lot of people who've attended multiple BlogHer conferences have said the same thing. I have to tell you why it was the best conference ever, and that's hard to explain.  Read more >
