Every time. Every single time. Perhaps because they're beautiful, meaningful, perfect. Or because they speak to my heart. Maybe because they draw out a deliciously aching, perfectly wistful, sweetly nostalgic feeling of longing. Or because they explode with joy and triumph and make me want to dance. Because of this, and this, and this, it's impossible for me to listen just once... I am greedy, I want more, and so I must go back for seconds.
Blogging daily is not just a test of endurance; it's also an opportunity to learn a lot about yourself: How you write, what your blog means to you, and where you should focus. We're celebrating the close of National Blog Posting Month with some inspiring quotes by bloggers who took the challenge -- you might be surprised by what they learned.
Fenrir Rising! With only 1 vote (major failure for my first attempt at having a poll) my beloved Úlfrinn have won the opportunity to get to a publisher before their competitors. Thank you for voting, mom! Here’s a summary for your favorite choice: We are Úlfrinn....more
Someone wrote a post recently on shaving her vagina, and the post has had me wondering why women feel that they need to have less and less hair everywhere except their heads. I can’t find the exact post because if you Google “shave your vagina,” about a trillion results come up. This troubles me for many reasons, starting with the anatomical infeasibility of shaving a vagina....more
Oh man guys, I've made it through my first week of NaBloPoMo - December. Excellent. I'll celebrate this day with a story:I was driving to the airport yesterday on the way to visit Lbean in sunny (it's actually raining right now…irony number 1) San Diego, when I started thinking about my walita and how awesome she was.My walita was my grandma of Mexican decent. The intention was to call her abuelita (little grandmother) but my older cousin couldn't manage that one with his little toddler speech. He ended up getting out walita and it stuck....more
As I briefly mentioned here I have exercise-ADHD. I love finding new and different ways to move my body, and I definitely love to meet all the people that come with a new form of movement. This largely ties into my master-of-none personality. I'm not passionate enough to practice skill sets while I'm watching TV (I knit...if you were wondering), or go do something every day even when I feel sick or tired....more
In reply to WP Daily Prompt: Fifteen MinutesYou have 15 minutes to address the whole world live (on television or radio — choose your format). What would you say?Photographers, artists, poets: show us THE BIG MOMENT. Wow - this is a toughie for me. I would have no idea where to begin. ...more
This is a little disturbing. What does it mean? I have always lived in and out of the city, but I always felt my heart was in the country. I believe that it is still. It is just that I have been in the city the last couple of days and I have been enjoying it. I have been chauffeured around. I have been taken out for dinner and breakfast. I have been cooked for. I have slept in. I have not had to encounter any mud. I have not had to run out to feed *fill-in-the-blank*....more
I heard it more than once today. “Oh, look at at that. It’s almost to pretty to use!” A potholder, a dish cloth. My hard work combined with well-chosen materials. Not art, but pretty close to craft. Lovely. But for some, not meant for the hard work of life....more
I can't do it. There will be professional artists in the audience. What if they see how amateurish I am?I've never taken an art class. Ever. I may be an artist, but I am not a skilled artist. These are the thoughts that raced through my mind when the associate pastor at the church we've been attending asked me to paint during the worship service. However, you could really insert this conversation into my head any time someone asked me to perform a skill.Case in point:...more
