BlogHer 2012 Highlights: [VIDEO] Fashion Show

I am no fashionista, but I LOVE my accessories, jeans, and chucks.  Oh, and cool glasses too.  I was pretty excited when Kathryn Finney from The Budget Fashionista told us about the fashion show during SparkleCorn (that was one of the BlogHer 2012 official parties).  She told us there would be models (who happened to be bloggers) of all shapes, sizes, and religions - you have to watch the video to get that one....more

Walking the BlogHer Fashion Show: Anything Is Possible

Ccould I really do it? Could I walk a runway in front of hundreds in New York at the BlogHer '12 Fashion Show, knowing full well I’d be in tears and hating the body I’m supposed to show off and love? Would it be a big lie?...more
Hey I'm a fashion blogger but mine is by no means silly. I try to send the message to all women ...more

The Weekend I Overdosed on Estrogen

You'll have to excuse me today, I'm coming down from a pretty wicked high.  I spent the weekend living like an estrogen junkie, hopping from one session to another, parties to conversations, and back again.  It was like shooting feminism into my veins. And then I came home.  A cab, a train, and my own car took me on a 16-hour trip from my dealer's corner (the Hilton NYC, corner of 6th Ave. and 53rd St.) back to my little corner of the universe in Kentucky, one that is free of all estrogen but my own.It feels a bit weird, honestly....more

How BlogHer '12 Prepared Me for Ants

The BlogHer '12 conference, held this weekend in New York, was by far the best thing I could have done for myself. Connecting with the women behind the supportive comments, Sparkles and shares solidified BlogHer as a tangible community, not just another slice - albeit a very large slice - of the internet....more

How to Start a Vlog: BlogHer12

I learned to write quite a long time ago. The high school AP English teacher who taught me, a middle-aged frumpy woman by the name of Dr.Gordon, began by telling us to think about the audience. I am not sure I understood her then, although I have never forgotten what she said. I understand it now. Nothing has changed about that dictum, although decades of students have passed through school since. Most of them do not bother to think about the audience. Or, as Jeff Jarvis says, "the people formerly known as the audience."...more
Interesting.  I had to read as i thought, Vlog?  I hadn't heard of that one yet. ...more

BlogHer '12: What I'd do differently

Home! And sleep! Two of the most welcome words after being stuck in an airport overnight! I am still exhausted, but slowly getting sorted out and definitely looking forward to returning to what passes for a normal routine tomorrow. ...more

BlogHer 13 Buddy System: tell me what you think of this idea!

Hi, my name is Linda. I have many fine qualities. I'm a good wife and mother, I'm good at my job, I sometimes write some pretty hilarious stuff, and I am a fabulous online networker.  But put me, face-to-face, in a room of people I don't know, and I'm riddled with social anxiety.  This is what happened to me when I previously attended a BlogHer conference. ...more

A Meme about Men Who Attend BlogHer Conferences

by Cool Dad"So, what are you doing here? I wonder about the men who attend BlogHer."When a woman at the BlogHer Annual Conference asked me this, it confirmed my number one worry: women thinking that I'm hitting on them. That's why I started off my conversations with "MY WIFE and I run a blog called 'Are We Still Cool'…"I talked to another guy blogger, and he felt the same way. We're innocent, we're harmless, we write blogs that appeal to women, and we're NOT looking for love!...more

BlogHer 2012: My Perspective

Mamacita says:  I've only just returned from New York City, where the best BlogHer conference yet was held.  While I may be home now, my head and heart are still mingling with the 5,000 women (and men) in the Hilton hallways and session rooms.  Oh, and behind the registration desk, which is the best job EVER because everybody has to register, so the volunteers there get to see everybody....more
