American Idol Recap: It's the Finals, Idol Fans!!

via embedded video

Will this be Year Five in a row with a sensitive white guy winner? Yeah, I said it. Season 11 has been strong, but without someone who made me go "wow!" As we're down to the finals, I wonder who I might have preferred to see there, and other than thinking that Elise is way more intriguing and interesting than we ever really got to see, I can't come up with better. Not from the finalists we ended up with anyway. How about you? Any discarded favorites along the way? There were three rounds on this quick one-hour episode.  Read more >

A Fantastic Top Three Go For the Mirror Ball Trophy.I admit I was sad to see Maria go, but it's hard to argue with any of these finalists. And I'm finding it very hard to predict what will happen, don't you think? So let's dig right in! 1. William and Cheryl  Read more >

Goodbye, Beautifully Flawed House, M.D.

[Editor's Note: Last night, after eight glorious seasons, Hugh Laurie (and fans across the world) said farewell to House, M.D. in an twisty-turny episode titled "Everybody Dies" (for a spoiler loaded Blogcritics review click HERE).  Aunt Becky of Mommy Wants Vodka has been a long time devotee to her TV-Husband Gregory House, M.D.  Read more

American Idol Recap: The Top Three Sing Three

And mostly live in the past...Last night was the penultimate performance show for American Idol season 11, and I will say what I've been saying most of the season: These contestants are really quite talented, but I don't really have a favorite. How can that be? Last night's show was a good example why. Each Idol has something I really like, and something that leaves me cold. And the song choices…all season long, and last night in particular…have been really old school and played out. I mean, that's nothing new for Idol, but it has seemed more boring to me this year.  Read more >

It's A Wrap: 30 Rock And Other Awesome Shows That Went Out On Top

via embedded video

I’m a huge fan of 30 Rock, but I was happy to hear it when they announced the series is wrapping up next season. I prefer the Ab Fab model to the Bonanza one - a series moving on while adoring fans still want more as opposed to becoming something we take for granted. It’s like reading a good book. We approach the end aware how many pages are left while appreciating what we’ve enjoyed so far.  Read more >

Dancing with the Stars Recap: The Final Four

Four Couples, Two Dances, Two Female Stars, Two Male StarsWe're down to the wire, and this is…I have to agree with the hype…the best matched semi-final ever. They're all talented, and while I might have a personal favorite or two, I really won't be upset with any Top 3…will you? Each couple did two dances, and here's how it went down: 1. The Bachelorette: Emily Maynard is Back - Did You Watch?

Emily Maynard c/o ABC

Welcome to the all-new, “dramatically different” season of The Bachelorette!  Um, not really, but nice try, ABC. Sure, the show is filming in Emily’s hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, but this isn’t the first time a single parent held the title role (Jason Mesnick, anyone?) This may be the first time that the child wasn’t shipped somewhere while mommy/daddy went lookin’ for love in a McMansion, but it’s not the first time ever.  Read more >

Love in the Afternoon: Soap Operas Dying a Slow Death

I remember when soap operas use to be THE guilty pleasure -- no one really admitted to watching them but somehow we all knew the storylines.   Read more >

American Idol Recap: The Top 4 Serenade California

Via embedded video

And not one Katy Perry song among them! The premise last night was that each Idol would sing one song in tribute to California (if there was a reason for this tribute I missed it) and one song that they wished they had written. I like that approach because theoretically it's about craft and talent, as opposed to pure treacly "inspiration". I'm not sure it really worked out that way, but I could see the possibilities.  Read more >
