A Trip to the Mountains & Hot Toddy Recipe

This past weekend Mirza, Kia and I went to the Poconos for a long weekend with some friends. We found a great log cabin that sat on a cliff, giving us some amazing views. We kept things pretty low key, enjoying the warmth of the fires (both indoors and out), playing games, going for a hike, and lounging with wine and cheese while watching some of the Olympics....more

From Microwave Queen to Cooking Guru

By Debbie Sultan (co-founder of Food Guru)As I was growing up, I often cringed when eating my dinner and would trash my school lunch. I desperately longed to have my meals made from scratch by a 1950s, 60s, or 70s sitcom mom. Unfortunately, my fate and appetite depression was in my mother’s hands....more

Easy Apple Crumble

We had a couple over for dinner the other night and I wanted to make something for dessert that I hadn't made for a long time. Something that would be perfect for a cold February evening. Thumbing through my recipe binder I found one of my old faves, an Apple Crumble. It's the perfect combination with two kinds of apples that help to keep it from being too tart or too sweet. Strawberry Napoleons

The finale of any good dinner is a great dessert. I know that chocolate is the natural choice, but as some of you know I’m not the biggest chocolate fan. After a plethora of chocolate desserts on Cooking in Red Socks over the last few years, I wanted make something for those of us who prefer vanilla and fruit to chocolate. A napoleon is a classic French dessert--layers of puff pastry that are filled with a cream filling and a glaze drizzled over top. I wanted to change up the basic ingredients to “lighten” up the recipe. When I say this, I mean lighten it up in mouthfeel, not calories....more

Golden Roasted Turkey Breast perfect for our traditional family Sunday dinner!

Luscious family dinners are a Sunday stable at my house.  The tradition dates back to my grandparents who gathered the whole clan for a big feast on Sunday.  I have so many fond memories of Sundays when we would all sit around the large dinning room table for a meal that my grandmother started to prepare before she left for church on Sunday morning.  My Mother continued the tradition having a beautifully prepared dinner on Sunday that we could all relaxingly enjoy together....more
