Black forest cake gets its name from a cherry liqueur that originates from the Black Forest mountain range in Germany, Schwarzwald. Since then it's been made in many different countries and in many different ways but it is essentially, cherries, chocolate and cream.
I personally love this flavour combination, it's decadent and delicious so I thought I would make it into a cupcake.
It's my usual dark chocolate cupcake recipe but I have filled it with a yummy cherry filling. I've added a splash of almond essence to it too because I think that brings out the cherry flavour.
Soon Kueh/bangkwan kueh is a very popular snack in Malaysian and Singapore. Tradionally the filling is made out of bamboo shoots but nowadays you can usually get the make from Jicama/bangkwan which I prefer. Added to is mushrooms, carrots or dried shrimps ....more
