I don't have anything brilliant to say. As a matter of fact I'm relatively speechless. I just saw on ESPN a brief clip of Junior Seau's funeral, followed by a discussion on concussions in the NFL. American sports fans, TV commentators and the chattering classes in general were outraged at a Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees baseball game when an engaged couple grabbed a foul ball at the same time a little boy’s father was trying to snatch it for his son.The child starts to bawl and makes a huge fuss on national TV. Because they’re all getting smashed in to a pulp against the boards.I’m telling you, [NHL exec] Brendan Shanahan has got to feel cursed. Here he is, with the highest TV ratings of a playoff round in years. The US audience is actually tuned in for a change. And yet at the same time, every single night his iPhone lights up with 10,724 voice mails, texts and twitter messages about yet ANOTHER player getting floored by yet ANOTHER dirty head shot.Hope he has a flat rate for texting, is all I can say.  Read more >

Legendary Tennessee Coach Pat Summitt Resigns Due to Health Issues

Although not surprising, the announcement that legendary Tennessee Lady Vols head coach Pat Summitt has resigned marks the end of an era. Summit, who was diagnosed with early onset dementia last year, will no longer pace the sidelines in Knoxville. While she will still be involved with the team as “head coach emeritus,” long time assistant coach Holly Warlick will take over head coach duties.  Read more >

Today is the 65th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking major league baseball's color barrier. It was on April 15 in 1947 at Ebbets Field that Robinson debuted for the Brooklyn Dodgers. After just four months, Lamar Odom and the Dallas Mavericks have broken up.
