2009 offered BlogHer conferences and its community many advances and exciting new adventures – here’s a quick look at 2009…
In January we said farewell to our long time conference manager, Kristy Sammis, who left for new and exciting adventures (particularly as full-time mom to Eve). While she left our offices, she never left our hearts, or our events. However, all was not lost – because of Kristy’s departure I was able to find a job in Silicon Valley’s challenging environment and wow, did I get a job :)). It has been a whirlwind of an adventure and I must say I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
February brought My Bloggy Valentine to 330 Ritch in San Francisco, and our sponsor, Nintendo, did not disappoint. With food, beverages, demonstrations, Nintendo gaming stations and giveaways, everyone walked away feeling the love, perfect for Valentine’s Day.
May was a big announcement month for the BlogHer conferences and company. We announced our first annual BlogHer Food event! This event was designed for all the foodies of BlogHer, including food photographers, first time bloggers and more!
Welcome July and the 5th Annual BlogHer Conference and the 3rd Annual BlogHer Business Conference, both in Chicago. With nearly 1500 attendees, 60 sessions, 160 speakers, 21 community keynoters, this was the largest BlogHer event to date! BlogHer took greater steps this year to be green with the help of the Green Team, and got our geek on by working with the BlogHer Tech Committee to launch the Geek Lab. Our Expo Floor featured more than 40 key sponsors. We were LiveBlogging and taking video - it was everything you wanted and more under one roof. In addition to all this fabulous '09 content, we kicked off the event by announcing BlogHer '10 and BlogHer Business ’10 would be coming to New York City in August, 2010!
Riding into September on the Food train was nothing short of exhilarating! The first annual BlogHer Food event was held at the St. Regis in fabulous San Francisco, California. We enjoyed 300 bloggers, 11 sponsors, and 26 speakers - a great way to start a new event! We LiveBlogged all of our sessions with the help of our live-bloggers, took great photos and just had an overall wonderful time. In addition to this amazing first time event, we donated over 676 pounds of food to the San Francisco Food Bank – BlogHers and Hims sure do know how to give back – well done!
October was another major announcement month for the conference team, the BlogHer ’10 Call for Ideas! We saw a 20% increase in submissions over 2009. Stay tuned for the launching of the Room of Your Own submission and community voting process next month.
In November, we announced two end of year meet ups, one in San Francisco and one in New York City to be held on December 3.
December, ah December. Welcome to the holiday season with two meet ups, one in San Francisco and one in New York City. San Franciscan’s enjoyed December 3 at Tres Agaves and remembered those less fortunate and brought in canned goods for the San Francisco Food Bank. On the opposite coast, New Yorkers were rockin’ to the beat at Pranna. And just like in SF, canned goods were brought in for the Food Bank of New York City! And not to be undone, the fabulous BlogHers and Hims of Austin hosted a soiree and donated to the Capital Area Food Bank. All totaled, BlogHer attendees brought in more than 425 pounds of food serving over 300 meals for those in need – another testament to the power of the blog!
Phew, what a year. Of course none of this would be happening without you – our community. We are grateful for your passion and participation on a daily basis. When we have such amazing years as 2009 we know we have you to thank.
Here’s to 2010!
