Editor's note: What do you want BlogHers to act on in the next year -- globally and in the U.S. election? Please, Take our survey and let us know. Thanks!
The magic of BlogHers Act continues to grow by the day, and here is one of the best examples of that yet.
Catherine Connors of Her Bad Mother and MommyBlogs Toronto sent this email over the weekend:
"So, myself and the ladies (and man) of MommyBlogsToronto have been beyond inspired by all the activity around BlogHer Act, and began having discussions about how we could carry some of that inspiration into the Canadian blogHERsphere. The secondary push from BlogHer Act to address legislative issues in the US is, we think, something that we should be doing in Canada, too."
Do you know what that means!?!
Because BlogHer.org is so cool and Catherine and her team are so awesome, yesterday (Canada Day, appropriately) BlogHers Act - Canada was born. Yes, the BlogHers Act initiative is now multi-national.
Check out this post, and this one from Catherine. And another from Sandra Diaz has some great detail on their plans.
Catherine wrote:
"We beat our collective chest and we write and write and write, but where's the action? Real action, not just the action of putting pen to paper and fingers to keyboard (which is not to be discounted - who can deny that the Just Posts, with all of their heart and soul, make a difference? - but still.) Shouldn't we be acting? Well, BlogHer is acting, as most of you probably already know, through the fantabulous initiative that is BlogHers Act, which is encouraging women bloggers to come up with global and US-based plans for action on causes to be decided upon at the conference. And, now, MBT is teaming up with them to spearhead a Canadian version of this initiative. That's right. We're getting in on the action, Canuck-style. Our immediate goal is two-fold: to come up with a list of causes that women bloggers (not just mom-bloggers) from around Canada want to get behind, and then to narrow down that list to at least one cause (maybe more? can we do it?) that we will act upon directly over the coming year. The long-term plan? To bring Canadian women bloggers together to take real action. To effect real change."
We will say it again (and again and again) -- You all ROCK. It just gets better and better. There is so much possibility and potential and we are counting the days until BlogHer (24!) and working with you to figure this out and to put a "plan" for making a difference into place. In the meantime, email us, we look forward to hearing more of your ideas for ACTION.
AND remember, if you haven't already, to VOTE on the issues you want to get behind. You have until July 8th. Spread the word!
