It is my pleasure to introduce you to my nephew, henceforth known as "The Heir to the Throne Jr" unless I forget and blog him by his real name or the nickname my mom and I were discussing for him this morning. I'll keep you posted on that.
He was born last week, on Friday, at 4ish in the afternoonish and weighed a very whopping 5lbs 2oz. That's huge. There for awhile, we thought he was going to be 3 1/2lbs. Seriously. My sister's pregnancy didn't go quite the way we expected it to and we were sort of worried. OK a lot worried.
We spent a little more than a month wondering what was going to happen. It just about drove some of us crazy. (OK me, it almost drove ME crazy.) Now, I sit back and I think about the women who are pregnant in China and Burma, in the wake of horrible natural disasters. Imagine the worrying they are doing. Then I look at Afghanistan and Nepal and Darfur. The worry. My crazy worrying was nothing compared to what those families must go through during their entire pregnancy.
Afghanistan (video uploaded 2 years ago):
Nepal (one month ago):
Our days of worry are over. He's here, and he's perfect and tiny and apparently cries much more loudly than his big brother, "The Heir to the Throne Sr" did. He's also got a wee bit of jaundice but he is home and that's what matters. I've made my GlobalGiving donation in honor of his birth, as I said I would.
Now we are waiting patiently for "the twins" to arrive in a few months - my ex's side of the family and so far all looks good for us to see the arrival of two more healthy babies. We are blessed. And when these babies arrive, happy and healthy as we expect them to be, I'll make another donation that I hope will help ease just a few worries for other families. Pregnancy and childbirth shouldn't be full of worry. It just shouldn't.
I just happened to see this post, and I just have to offer you my congratulations on the birth of your beautiful nephew! What a handsome little guy he is! Welcome to this world, Heir Jr, I hope to see more about you soon :)

Congratulations to you and the whole family. I'm relieved to hear everything went better than expected. He's a doll. :)

Thank you
Yep, a doll. I think that's what his big brother thought when he got his first look at him. Totally not what he expected in a brother. :-)

I probably won't get my hands on the little guy til later this fall. But when I do, I'll totally blog it.

Amazing how some of our worries pale in comparison. I have a friend who just return from doing work in the Dominican and the pictures amaze me.

Besides being cute--Look at his finger position and wry, observing facial expression: Looks like he is ready to begin blogging to me!

Great post!
And what a cute photo of the little guy. Such a good message in this post.
(Did I ever tell you that I have over 40 nieces and nephews and more than 20 great nieces and nephews? That's a LOT of babies. We've been very lucky.)
