Boarding the Bandwagon...One Decade Too Late

*sigh*

So I finished a book today. Well, actually seven books. I got into this series and couldn't stop or do anything else until I finished.

The only problem is that it's the Harry Potter series and I finally read them about a decade after everyone else on the planet. Actually more like 15 years, since the first book of the series was released in 1997, but I still have trouble admitting that "10 years ago" is in the 2000s, not the 1990s.

Obviously I loved the books (who didn't?) and you might be wondering why I didn't read them until this year (2012). I don't have a good reason, really. I was in high school and college while they were at the height of their popularity and just wasn't doing a lot of reading for fun. Then when the books were being made into movies, I was finishing college, adjusting to married life, working, and then becoming a mom. Fiction just wasn't on my radar at the time, but it totally should have been. It would have been nice to have a fantasy world full of wizards to escape to at the end of a long day.

In some ways, it has been nice waiting until now to read them, because I didn't have to endure that dreaded wait between book releases and could read them all in about three weeks. I also was able to watch each of the movies after completing the book, which helped.

I told my husband tonight that I absolutely would have been one of those midnight premiere geeks and would have thrown or attended a Harry Potter party (much like the Hunger Games premiere party earlier this year). I'm positive I would have wasted spent many hours online looking at fascinating HP facts and memes (luckily Pinterest helps me collect the best ones, saving me time). By the way, I just barely finished all of the Hunger Games books a few months before the movie hysteria began.

As silly as I feel for waiting so long to enter the Harry Potter fandom, I'm so glad I did. Now to start saving for a trip to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter...

Are there any books or movies you put off reading for a really long time and then finally gave in?
