T'is the season to be bookish! Book bloggers are a festive bunch and we do like to celebrate the holidays. There's a lot to celebrate - Christmas novels and picture books, bookmarks, book art and most importantly, book blog events.

As usual there are several book blogger Christmas Swaps. The chance to sign up has unfortunately already flown by but I'm all for living vicariously through others. One of the swaps is the Friendly Book Nook Christmas Book Swap. Participants are sending each other Christmas-themed books. Sounds fun doesn't it?

Another is the Book Bloggers Christmas Swap, hosted by Nymeth and Dewey. Their swap is not exclusively for books.

What you have to do next is send that person a little something - it can be a book, a journal or bookmark, a box of Christmas cookies, a mixed CD, whatever you can think of. It doesn't have to be anything pricey, of course. Second hand books are perfectly acceptable, as are homemade gifts.

I can't wait to start seeing the posts from the participants as they receive their gifts!

Dewey is also celebrating the giving season with more than a month of giveaways! It looks like she's giving away some great books.

Marg of Reading Adventures and Kailana of The Written World are back this year with their Blog Advent Tour. Each day from December 1 to December 24 assigned bloggers will post something about the holidays. And guess what? It doesn't have to book related!

Each day anyone who wants to participate could take turns sharing a little treat with our friends here in blogland. For example it could be something about a holiday tradition, or a recipe, or a picture of a hot guy dressed as Santa, or a favourite Christmas memory, movie, book, song...anything you like. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas we would like to hear about what your family does during the holiday season, whether it be celebrating Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or anything!

Here's a peek at some of last year's posts. Suey's Books posted about a three-year old shepherd who went a little wild with his staff (complete with video). Chris at Book-a-Rama posted about her grown-up Christmas husband's tradition of making homemade perogies. My very first Christmas away from my own family I spent it with friends who made perogies and they will always be Christmas food to me now. I 've really enjoyed reading the Blog Advent Tour the last two years and I hope that you will be following along with me this year.

Do the swappers send their own, already read and loved books? I'm traumatized thinking about having to part with a Christmas book. No, no, no siree, couldn't do it. Put my mind at rest, tell me they are sending brand new books. Pleeeez!

I'm going to check out the Blog Advent Tour... love to blog about books, love to read books, I'd love to take part :-)
