Book Review: I ♥ Patchwork
By Leigh Laurel Studios on July 26, 2013
I Love Patchwork by Rashida Coleman-Hale was delivered to my house this morning. The subtitle aptly sums it up: 21 Irresistible Zakka Projects to Sew. Published by Interweave, the 260 pages are chock-full of innovative projects that do not disppapoint. The photography is lovely; vignettes are composed in such a way that you don't want to turn the page, but you just have to know what's next.
The real beauty lies in the thoughtful details — a cheery yellow hexagon zipper pull on a pencil case, colorful loops to hang kitchen towels, grommets on the sewing machine cover. There is a calendar with hand printed buttons that can be moved around month-to-month on a linen background covered in velcro dots.
The pretty patchwork coaster set has a sensible and elegant holder for when they're not in use. The patchwork bordered apron would be a thoughtful hostess gift. A little linen-faced lamb sports a brilliant patchwork skirt. There's a patchwork ball that would be a great project for anyone interested in learning how to sew something 3-D. There is even a lap quilt project, perfect for those of us who have been threatening to learn to quilt but haven't quite gotten up the nerve.
I appreciate the diversity of the projects in this book, easily held together by the thread that is Ms. Coleman-Hale's distinctive style. If I had a star rating system, there'd be a cute little row of them at the bottom of this post.
