How Do You Recharge?
By Karen Ballum on November 07, 2012
Sometimes, we all need a little time to recharge. We each have our own way of doing that. Sometimes we do it alone. Other times we call upon our friends and loved ones to help us recharge our batteries. In Sylvia Day's Reflected in You, Eva recharges with her best friend, Cary.
"But mostly I thought Cary and I needed to spend some quality downtime together. We hasn't been living in Manhattan long. It was a new town for us, new apartment, new jobs and experiences, new boyfriends for both of us. We were out of our element and struggling, and since we both had barge loads of baggage from our past, we didn't handle struggling well. Usually we leaned on each other for balance, but we hadn't had much time for that lately. We really needed to make up the time." Page 18-19
I've moved quite a few times over the last ten years. I've moved due to careers, relationships and just simply because it seemed like the best decision in the moment. Each of my moves has been the right decision, but they are still difficult. Even though things are good, they are different, and sometimes you just need to withdraw from the the different and get back to your personal base. Sometimes for me that means actually going on a trip and hanging out with people I've known most of my life. When I've been through a particularly hectic week, sometimes it just means hanging out with my husband around the house and playing board games and watching a movie.
But there are other times when the best way to recharge is to hang out just by myself. Whether it's a been a hard week or a good week, one of my favorite ways to recharge is to retreat to a bubble bath with a good book and, on special occasions, a glass of wine. I stretch. I soak. I add more hot water to the bath if and when required. Or sometimes I skip the bubble bath and go for a fizzy bath bomb full of aromatherapy goodness. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Eva's trips to Las Vegas or spa days in her apartment would be fun as well, but bubble bath and bath bombs are easier to fit into my budget and schedule.

It's hard to believe that we're in the middle of August, but we are. And that means that summer is almost over--and school is just around the corner (though I don't like to think about that!) So when Staples contacted me and asked if I'd be interested in writing a Back to School post, I jumped at the chance, especially since they were including a generous gift card. Read more
