While my go to genre of a book is usually not mystery, within the first chapter of Faithful Place, byTana French, I was hooked. I finished this 400 page book in two days. Having three children home for the summer was a pretty big accomplishment but I wanted to keep reading.

How a man can be away from his family for 20 years and end up back under these circumstances are amazing. Frank Mackey runs away from home and later comes back as a detective solving a murder that turns his world upside down. While reading this book you think of two things, is there only one true love for everyone and how much would you do to protect your own family?

The way the author writes the book puts the reader easily into The Mackey's Dublin neighborhood, listening to the conversations between the various characters. There are many times you think you know who might have been responsible for the crime and then things change. Don’t worry, I will not let you know the ending.

There are many times you want to take different sides to the family members, which proves how well Tana French makes you feel part of the story; watching the events happen in front of you. Throughout the story I felt like one of the Mackey family members, and I personally took sides with Jackie. Do you find Frank arrogant at times, or do you think he did the right thing 20 years ago when he left?

Which sibling did you like the most? I can't tell you the ending or how the mystery is solved, but even if you don't think you are a mystery reader, you will want to give Faithful Place a try.

I think Frank did the right thing when he left. I did it, too.
