Tana French Does Mystery Right!

BlogHer Review

It was a joy reading Faithful Place by Tana French; I really like this author's writing style. It kind of reads like a good episode of Law & Order but where you know more about the characters, and the descriptions of the characters suck you in. There is this sense of hunting the whole time, trying to figure out "whodunit" and you don't mind if your first idea is later proved wrong. (Which mine was, this time. Actually, it was proved wrong a few times.)

I also like how the author will write things almost phonetically, so you can almost hear the Irish accents. Like "eejit" instead of idiot. It's good stuff. She also changes the f-word a to make it have an Irish accent (sometimes) and it took me a while to realize that was going on, and she just wasn't using another word I didn't know. (Like it took me to figure out "on the dole.")

Anyway, French is a great author, and I look forward to reading her previous books in this series!
