Boyz Bedroom: Time for an Overhaul

Working With: The Boys Bedroom

Having grown up in a family with nine children, I hardly have sympathy for any child that has to share a bedroom with a sibling. I can't even begin to tell you how many different room arrangements we had as children. As another brother or sister was moving out we were already moving our clothes and stuff to different rooms before the car left to driveway.

So my boys have to share a room, granted it's a pretty good size room by city standards, but kinda' oddly laid out. My husband will not even begin to hear about twin beds for the boys. It's a childhood thing he carries with him to this day. Apparently, at 6'3" in ninth grade a twin bed didn't cut it. To this day he has to sleep with his feet hanging over the edge of the bed. So we have two queen size beds in their room - mostly for company that comes to visit because our guest room was being used by our nanny.

Solution.... BUNK BEDS!!! Now try and find someone who makes custom queen bunk beds sturdy enough for MY boys - cause you know they are going to jump on them.

So here's what I'm working with.... I didn't even try to make it look like anything other then what it looks like. Because even picked up it still looks like a mashed-up mess of disfunction.

Books need to be edited & organized

Simplify bedding for convenience and order

Need a chair for the desk.

This seems to be a catch-all for junk.

Chalk board painted wall, I like it and I'll keep it.

 Another landing spot for randomness.

Here are some of my ideas and inspirations.

Small galvanized buckets for Legos mounted on bookshelf or wall

Large galvanized buckets for toys.

I like the classic blue and white bedding.

I just saw these handmade, one-of-a-kind light fixtures on craigslists. I'm thinking #1.

Ok so I've got my design plan in place, now I need to execute. I'm going to tackle this project and get back to you with updates and the final reveal. Wish me luck.

Take care now,
