Brilliant bargain buy - Wet n' Wild nail polish in "Amour Perdu"

Since I got engaged in October, I've been obsessed with my nails. You have to understand that I've never really been a manicure sort of gal before: my nails were perpetually bitten and crumbly and regularly unpolished up until a few months ago, and they were never, ever, ever the same length.

But as soon as I got something sparkly on my finger, everyone and their mom (and their mom's yoga teacher and their mom's yoga teacher's best friend) would gather round my left hand, eyes wide. "Oh, let's seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee," they'd coo. And so I learned pretty darn quick to proffer five shiny manicured oval-shaped nails, rather than five raggedy old bitten ones. (Call me crazy, but it just seemed to get a better reaction.)

The problem was, I couldn't find a nail polish shade I liked. I wanted something nude (or at least fairly natural and unassuming), I wanted it to last a long time, and---hey, if we're honest---I wanted it to have a kicky name. I tried pretty much everything in the OPI oeuvre. I dabbled here and there with a little Essie. I even had a couple of dates with Sally Hansen herself and her Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color.

And then I found it, my $1.99 miracle, just idling in the aisles of my local drugstore. It was the palest, softest shell pink. It went on smooth and stayed on for ages. It was Wet n'Wild Mega Last Strengthening Nail Polish in "Amour Perdu," and I bought two bottles and never looked back.

Of course, the name translates to "lost love," so it's maybe not the most auspicious of monikers for the recently engaged, but hey, fulfilling two out of three criteria ain't bad. And luckily I'm not particularly suspicious.

(Don't get me wrong, I'm always open to cheating---um, on my nail polish, I mean, not my fiancé. Is there a natural/nude nail polish you think I'd like even better than this one? Because seriously, I can quit this one at any time if something better comes along. I'm fickle like that.)

I have been painting my nails on my own ever since the economy got bad and I could no longer afford manicures:( However, I will tell you that five days ago I used NYC nail polish in a hot pink color and fell in love. The color is great but what really sold me was that it still has not chipped. I have been a former OPI addict but it would never last. Who knew that all this time my perfect manicure was only an isle away at cvs.

When I got engaged the same thing happened to me...I had ragged looking nails as well. (damn those oral fixations)  ANYhoooo...I used to go as far as to ben my fingers downward at the middle knuckle so they could see the ring, but not the nails.  After a while I just forked up the money for acrylics...I'm lazy like that. :)

I love pale polish too & it really is hard to find a good shade.  I haven'te bought Wet 'n Wild in years, but have to check it out next time I'm shopping.

Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle by Essie are my two go-tos, but they are on the pinkish side, which I think is more flattering to my olive skin. But really, they're both beautiful and so subtle - if you haven't tried them yet, definitely do so.

Can't wait to try this one.

My current faves are OPI "Mimosas for the Mr. and Mrs." (perfect for YOU, being engaged and all!) and Sally Hansen 10-Day No-Chip in "Lasting Lily." Both great natural colors.

And if you want your nail polish to stay on longer, try Orly Bonder base coat. It works great for me and makes my manicure last.
