Entrepreneurs, buckle your seat belt, but take caution: the person in the passenger seat always gets hit hardest in the event of a crash. Who is in your passenger seat today? Is it your wife? Your child? A friend?

Know that your actions and business decisions have consequences, some of which will produce positive results; some will not.  Have you thought about how you will protect yourself and your significant other during your "start up" phase of business?  Have your clearly communicated the risks to those riding in the passenger seat? Are they okay with the risks involved?

While you and your passenger may have buckled your seat belt, sometimes that's not enough.  Have you incorporated your company?  Signing personally for loans, materials, etc. can have devistating effects if things go bad.  Don't do this.  For more information on tips, tools and start up resources, visit: www.yourstartupstory.com

Trust me, my husband made some start up mistakes and I was riding shot-gun during a crash.  It can hurt.
