Bullfighting Kids
by TW

Unfortunately, this won't be a cute post about one of my kids running around with a red towel playing matador.

I really am not one to point fingers at other parents as long as it is legal, it is your child. (as long as it is your child, not one of mine) Do not ask me to fuss at a parent for cry it out or attachment parenting. I am good with breast or bottle. I have my preferences and will preach plenty if you ask my opinion. In the end though, it is your child.

So, when you sign your child up for soccer over baseball or allow them to be championship Pokemon players instead of either, you still can come sit next to me.

Also, I am ok with Bullfighting. (Sorry Elisa.) I tend to think of it as interesting and well, rather cool. I don't tend to think cruel.

But...this story about the bullfighting 10 year old in France, err, turned my stomach. There are styles of bullfighting which don't end in the death of an animal.

Also, I am not keen on sports that can result in the death of a child. Yes, I know there are plenty of sports leagues in the U.S. who have seen their share of sports related deaths. Probably more than from bullfighting in an area where it takes place.

I object to the danger for the child. I really object to a child killing a bull or a calf for that matter. Yes, I know it is a cultural issue.

I know that my kids eat their share of beef and I shouldn't allow them the disconnect between the death of the animal and their burger. But, I also know...bullfighting is not about putting meat on the table. I know this is a child who started this very young...at an age where kids belong in car seats.
