Called to Singlemindedness
By punkpriest on October 25, 2012
Lk. 12: 49-53
"There is a baptism I still must receive. ." We think of nothing but the sacrament of baptism when we hear this word--but the word "to baptize" means to immerse--to immerse in suffeing. Jesus plunged to the very depths of suffering--he forgave the poor who were destroying his body and found life. Many people will say that "We concede the valdity of spiritual living, but we are not prepared to pay the price." I have been criticized for being "single minded," and I have come to understand that being singleminded for me is to embrace the suffering of the people around me--without flinching--that is the baptism to which I am called. Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God!
