Calling all local eco bloggers

My newest obsession: Local enviro blogs. Okay -- I guess since I've been writing a local enviro blog for a few years now, I can't really call it a new obsession. But lately, I've been wondering why there aren't more of them!

I mean, we have plenty of enviro blogs. Lots of new ones seem to pop up every day! But almost all of these are either very general and not location specific -- or very self-focused. Where are those wonderful city or town -- or at least state-level -- blogs that let local residents know how they can go green in their hood?

I know there's gotta be some out there. I'm looking for locally-focused blogs that're about sharing info about local eco-resources with fellow like-minded neighbors. Where are they?

Let me know, and I'll put them all together in a compiled list. I get a lot of emails from gals asking me if I know 'bout an eco blog in their city, after all!

In the meantime, some not so locally focused but fun women-run eco blogs:

* greener side: Eco girl meets tech in the Bay area.

* Fake Plastic Fish: Girl de-plasticking her life in Oakland.

* BTC Elements blog: Eco-fashion meets city living in LA.

Check them out. Then lemme know about your fave eco city blog!

I just posted about this same subject on my blog - farm fresh, local, organic food.... rather than bore you with the whole thing, here's the beginning,a bout me and my chickens, and you can read the rest if you're interested...
____

My mornings almost always start with a trip to our chicken coop. (Well, after I've made coffee, nothing starts until I have coffee.) I gather whatever kitchen scraps are left from the day before, whatever fruits and veggies are about to head south, and take them all out to our lovely little flock, let the chickens out of the coop so they can wander around their palatial chicken estate for the day....

I'd be lying if I said that I knew the nutritional benefits of fresh eggs when I started. I had a strong suspicion that they were better for me than commercially farmed eggs, but I didn't know for sure. I just knew I loved animals, I loved the ritual of caring for them, and I love the cycle - they eat our scraps and lay us eggs, we take their waste and compost it and till it into our vegetable gardens, which deliver us incredible bounty that we eat, except the scraps, which go back to the chickens.....

So I was DELIGHTED this morning when I stumbled across an article on MSNBC.com (which is the only thing i do before coffee) about the nutritional value of free-range eggs......

THE rest of the blog is on JustCauseIt.com, at: http://justcauseit.com/blogs/alyssa-royse/farm-fre...

Green Tallahassee here!

I started this blog for exactly the reasons you listed above. There is plenty of national and international coverage about things "green," but what is happening locally?

I've covered Florida's policy on alternatively fueled vehicles in its fleet, reported on the Sustainability Conference at Florida State University, pondered the lack of recycling bins at local apartment complexes, participated in the local tour of solar homes and businesses and attended the first church that installed solar panels and much more. Our Governor recently issued an Executive Order requiring Florida to increase its use of renewable energy. There's a lot happening here. Stop by and visit.

Cooking Up a Story 5 pts

I produce a television show for the internet called Cooking Up A Story, which is filled with documentary shorts, told in the voice of the subject, about people, food, and sustainable living. I hope, thru these stories, people will learn how others are passionate about good, clean food and perhaps be inspired to make healthier choices for themselves. In addition to the video shorts, there is a Director's Journal from me, favorite recipes from each person I do a story on, and Additional Resource links to websites that might relate to the story.

Not too long ago I added Food News, which shares videos and interviews about the science, politics, and culture as it relates to food.

Overall, there is a lot of great info about the everyday food in our lives and the people who bring it to us. Get to know them, wherever you might live! Come check it out!

And thanks for the opportunity to share.

What a timely post. I'm looking for these too..... and any other "actiblogs." Environment, gay rights, education, parenting, healthcare etc.... JUST CAUSE was built to be an aggregate for blogs like this - and maybe a safe place for people to start blogging for the first time, about the causes that matter to them. The idea being that if we can all find the others who live near s and have a similar cause, we can all get together and get stuff done - whether it's clean up a park or stat an after school art program. Thanks for these links, I will check them out. And your blog - and invite anyone who blogs about issues to do so on JUST CAUSE as well. You can crate a profile and cross-post, that's great.

It may seem mildly random, but my last post was about being raised by gay parents, and how lucky I feel. But more so for my daughter who is surrounded by diversity in a way that seemed impossible when i was a kid, only 30 years ago. http://justcauseit.com/blogs/alyssa-royse/trick-or...

Thanks again. If you want to email me off list about how to get your blog included, and others, please do, alyssa AT JustCauseIt.com
