To create a BlogHer Group, click Community and browse the existing BlogHer Groups alphabetically or by topic to see if a group like the one you're thinking of already exists.
If you don't find a group for your favorite topic, click Create a Group to create one that you'd like to lead.
Fill out each of the * fields:
* Group name -- this is the name of your group. Make sure you choose something really descriptive and smart -- something that tells potential members exactly what they're joining.
* Description -- this is a short description of the group. Try for 25 words. This mini description will appear on the Groups landing page and be included in search results. A smart, descriptive brief description will help draw new members.
* Select the BlogHer Groups category area that best suits your group. (Please do not select every topic. If your group really fits every topic, try the very broad "Life" topic area instead.)
* Group Description - this is where you have the chance to really explain to the world what your group is about. Expand on the brief description. Add links, if appropriate, to help potential members decide whether your group is right for them. Don't be too verbose -- try for three short paragraphs or 250-750 words. If your description is too long, nobody will read it -- trust me, I speak from experience. ;-)
* Membership Requests - Do you want everyone to be able to join? If so, select "open". If you want to have more control over who joins your group, select "moderated". If you select "moderated", potential members will fill out a membership request form and you'll have to approve or deny membership within the membership area of your group. When you choose this option, please take the time to visit the membership area every day to approve or deny membership. There's nothing worse than applying to join a group and having the owner of the group ignore you for days on end.
* Click Save. Congratulations! You're a BlogHer Group Owner. The page you're on now is your group's landing page. Take note of the url, (bookmark it, favorite it, send it to your friends!) You'll be able to find this group any time by searching for it on the Community page.
* On your Groups landing page, you can invite members to your group. You can see all of the members of your group (click View All, underneath members to manage your group members - you can approve, remove or give administrative privileges to other members.) You can also change your group settings, including the name of the group (Be careful! If you change this your members may be confused and leave the group!) You can also start Group discussions.
