When they say that real beauty comes from within, I'm quite sure they don't mean from within an 8 fl. oz. ready-to-drink bottle. Which is why I performed an Olympic-caliber eye roll when I saw Nestle's entry into the beauty marketplace: Glowelle Beauty Drink, which invites you to "drink in pretty?"
Really?
I may be a confirmed beauty addict, and I'm also a health food nut - but a sucker I am not.
To be fair, good nutrition is a critical building block for healthy skin, and healthy skin is beautiful skin, so the Glowelle people aren't exactly lying when they say feeding your skin well will pay off, beauty-wise. But your skin is part of your whole body, and the best way to feed it is the same way you feed the rest of you. And no, an 8 oz. bottle full of white grape juice, ethyrithol (a sugar substitute), and "less than 2%" cane juice, mango puree, orange juice, etc... isn't going to cut it - even if they package it to look like medicine and want you pay $7 a pop at Neiman Marcus.
Here's the thing my friends: Just like there are no shortcuts to real health, there are no shortcuts to real beauty. RuPaul was right: You've gotta work!
So what do you need for good skin?
It's as easy as you suspect: You need to eat a variety of nutritious foods (the less processed the better.) You need to get your sleep. You need to keep it clean. You need to protect it from the sun. Boring advice, I know. But it proves that when it comes to beauty, it pays to keep it simple. Playing with beauty products is much more fun when you (all of you) are healthy and strong. Skip the drink and save your pennies for that new lip gloss you've been eyeing ... I'll go shopping with you!
