Today I am tired. I'm tired in a way that caffeine just doesn't touch. All I want to do is run away to a cottage with Lee, stick my feet in a body of water (lake, pool, ocean - I'm not picky), read outside and eat yummy food. I want a vacation, a real one with no schedule and no one else around that I have to worry about entertaining. Alas, we don't own a cottage and we haven't figured out quite how to make this kind of weekend away a reality before the end of the summer. So tonight I'm doing the next best thing that I can. I'm travelling across Canada, coast to coast and all the territories, visiting bloggy goodness. That's like a vacation, right?

British Columbia:
Mother Woman is reflecting on the great Canadian summer road trip tradition, perhaps not quite what I'd call fondly.

The blithe road trip is such a great Canadian fixture I can barely confess the transformation I have undergone to be in this place of hating it. We drove up the night before our first holiday to avoid the traffic. The road trip is torture for me. I used to get right into the high speeds, junk food, rest stops and 'sense of freedom'.

Alberta:
Natasha at Becoming Something is talking earnest apparel.

Been feeling pretty bleak lately. Like, for the past... two years? No, I'm kidding. Just for the past month. Ish. I purchased these t-shirts on Etsy when I was feeling bleak and I'm wearing the purple one now and it may sound stupid but the reminder that this mantra on a t-shirt provides helps me. (Awkward sentence alert. Don't expect me to care.)

(Hmm I think I need one of those "Keep Calm and Carry On" t-shirts. Or one of the posters. Can't decide!)

Saskatchewan:
I got lost in Saucy Sprinkles blog for a bit. Her post on trashing a dress totally made me want to run to Value Village and find me a nine dollar dress of my own.

When I say slightly tattered, I mean really, very tattered. It was kind of yucky. It looked like the bottom backside of the skirt had been through a shredder. No matter. When I picked it up, I knew that I had two obstacles:
One, the detailing on the bodice was out of date. Something would have to be done.
Two, convincing Loopy to put on the yucky, used, backless, tattered dress. Something would have to be done.

Manitoba:
Maureen's blogs I'd Rather Be Blogging (hey me too! Oh wait...I am!) and had her evening routine interrupted by a creeper in the Virginia creeper.

But this is where the routine stops. At least on this night. For as I wait for the canine to return, I get a silly notion to check if any plants on the deck need watering.
And before I head out the back door, I stop dead in my tracks.
For there, hanging at face level just inches from my nose, is The Arachnid.

Yukon:
I just happened to pop in on Dogsled_Stacie on her birthday! The campfire ban was pulled just in time for her birthday. Excellent!

I HAD to post on my birthday, and since it's been my BIRTHDAY for 11 minutes... here we are! I've had a few photos and videos lying in wait so I thought I'd share. 'Cause I'm just caring like that.

Northwest Territories:
Amy Hacala reflects on the influence of bloggers in small town media.

for the second time in as many months, the newspaper has published a story following up on something i have posted to my blog about (our local tweetup and the yellowknifers on mantracker). i am sure this has happened to other bloggers as well. as far as i can tell, the newspaper (whether it be the editor, or the reporters themselves) has started monitoring yk blogs in an effort to help identify stories that will be interesting to their readership. if this is in fact what the newspaper is doing, i would like to congratulate them and encourage them to do more of what they have been doing.

Nunavet:
Cindy, Matt and their furry friends spent a beautiful day foraging for mussels in Rankin Inlet.

We managed to fill our white bucket in less than an hour which meant we had more than enough to go around. The sun was shining and there were no bugs so it was the perfect day.

Ontario:
Remember how I said I wanted to go away and

Unfortunately you don't get to try all the local foods as you travel. That's a bit of a bummer. lol

That's so cool you found great bloggers in all those different provinces! Plus, you save a lot in gas or plane fare visiting that way.

Thanks for the great recommendations!
