Caregiving: How It's Like Being a Mommie

I've been thinking lately about how caregiving has taught me what it's like to be a mommie. I'm a 40-something woman with infertility issues... so the world of mommies is out of my league. BUT... I did have care of two fragile adults for many years...they turned into my kids in the usual role reversal that caregiving does to ya.

And I think it taught me a lot about what it is like to be a mommie.  Maybe mommies who turned into caregivers for their parents were better prepared for the task than I was.

Has anyone had the same experience?

...kinda...because we're looking to adopt. And i know if I survived caregiving...then maybe we can get through parenting as well!

I've been writing about caregiving a lot and while some things are similar, more things are very very different. I don't think we're all that prepared now, just because we've had kids. We might be LESS prepared, because as moms we expect to be treated as adults - as daughters of the person we're giving care to, we're often treated like kids. Heh. ;-)

TW and I have been known to compare her mother to a teenager, but really it's not the same thing.

Caregiving for adult family members has been harder than caregiving any of the six kids we've raised (or are raising.)
