About BlogHer '08 Carpool

For this year's BlogHer conference, GM offered attendees the opportunity to carpool to San Francisco using fuel-efficient Chevrolet hybrids. Aside from the obvious cost savings, GM's program is also giving bloggers a great vehicle for getting to know each other better (while having a little fun along the way). Follow their up-to-the-minute updates as the Carpool Volunteers converge on BlogHer central from Dallas, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. Click on each car's team name above to check in on their progress.

Thanks to GM and its Chevrolet brand for sponsoring many aspects of our conference, and for helping "green" our event every step of the way.

Hybrid Tahoe Bottom Line: Go for it!

Overall, I loved the Tahoe. It was easy to drive, handled great (the turning radius was better than my ancient Honda, a much smaller but not better car).  It felt good to drive, and it's clearly been designed with women in mind. Lots of room for cups, kids, and even a DVD player and headset for the kids.  Well done.Things I loved

If you know me and my style of blogging, you know I won't gloss over the flaws in a product, even if the company gives me a free sample or use of it before writing about it.

So Siel and I made it home yesterday after a not so great beginning.Checking out of the hotel took a little longer than I thought it would (there were problems with the bill, including the parking charge, which was not supposed to be there,). We finally got out of the city, or so we thought. In following the 80 east we should have (at some point) gotten on the 580 east but we missed it.Thank goodness for the GPS on the Tahoe!

Would you buy a Tahoe?

Post BlogHer conference, we had to put $100 worth of gas in the Tahoe to get us home.

City Driving; Country Driving

Impressions of the drive: Smooth, fast, economic, and fun.  Great carpool buddies go a long way toward making a long drive easy, and it doesn't hurt to have a vehicle to drive that has just about everything anyone needs (except perhaps a coffeemaker) to ease the way on the road. We took a wonderful tour of San Luis Obispo, ending in a  wonderful lunch before tacking the most boring part of the drive through Central Callifornia. All very, very good.

The Drive from LA

Well, we made it. 6 hours from LA to SF. The Chevy Tahoe was really nice-all the bells and whistles. I must say that the driver's seat was not that comfortable-I actually got a cramp in my butt while driving! It was a really smooth ride, the stereo was great (XM), and Siel even found the seat warmers. (Maybe not the best feature when it is 95 outside...)Siel is so cute.So here's the deal. She and I are pretty different, but this is why I came. She lives in LA, is single, and recently finished her Masters' Degree. Compared to my married, with kids suburban life.

How much does it cost to fill up a Tahoe?

by greenlagirl at 6:48pm Thu, 17 Jul 2008 under BlogHer '08 Carpool, GreenLAGirls; 318 views
Arrived in San Francisco for the BlogHer conference -- Still have a third of a tank of gas left in the Tahoe hybrid! V. glad GM's paying for parking, b/c at the Westin St. Francis it's $49 + tax per night per car -- and that's if you're a guest. ___

More than halfway

I got up late this morning so everything is off kilter for me.  But I was on the road by 7am and rarin to go!The Malibu is a very smooth ride and the figuring it out of it all has been pretty easy.  I discovered the XM radio COmedy channel and am too afraid to try to use the On Star without permission.  I filled Brid to the Brim this morning so I would get a good idea of the mileage capabilities.  There have been discrepncies and spculation so it will be interesting to see what we all come up with at the end.

chevy malibu: 32 mpg on hwy

by modmom at 12:22pm Thu, 17 Jul 2008 under blogher, 2008, silicon valley, Malibu, BlogHer '08 Carpool, Team Mod*Mom, Team Mod*Mom; 184 views
the awesome chevy hybrid malibu gets 32 mpg on the highway!the hybrid malibu is a 4-door luxury sedan with huge trunk, 100 satellite radio channels, "on star" human voice navigation, + it's much more comfortable than the prius, which we also love, but is not as luxurious + spacious + has an exposed hatchback.i mean in the prius, you hardly have any room to carry anything + it's all visible through a window + will heat up like a green house. whereas, in the malibu, we're bringing suitcases + lots of swag bags.

Chevy Tahoe: A Very big car

[Update: This car's a Tahoe, not a Malibu, as I thought it was called. Both headline and post have been updated to reflect the correct name of the car :P ] Thanks to GM, I and some fellow BlogHers get a free ride up to San Francisco for the BlogHer conference. GM's lending us a Chevy Tahoe -- free of charge -- along with a full tank of gas and free parking. Said Chevy Tahoe's taking up half my block at the moment.

BlogHerCon or Bust!

The lovely white Chevy Tahoe was delivered this morning with characteristic bells and whistles for our house, which is to say it was a low-key affair. The nice GM folks called when they arrived, had me sign on the dotted line and handed me the keys. All car transactions should be this painless.
