Casa Nueva and Cantina Athens 30 Mile meal
How local does Casa Nueva Restaurant, Cantina and Bodega get you may ask yourself? Casa Nueva is indeed as local as it gets when it comes to sourcing for products that they use in-house on their daily menus. They have been a 30 Mile Meal Partner since the establishment of the 30 Mile Meal Campaign in 2010. Since then, they have provided the community of Athens and its visitors with a Farm to Plate experience inside of their Cantina and Bodega restaurant. Casa Nueva sources locally from many farms and food distributors such as Shagbark Seed and Mill Company, King Family Farms, Shade River Organic Farm, Green Edge Gardens, Laurel Valley Creamery, Sticky Pete's Maple Syrup, and the list goes on and on. Casa Nueva began working with local farms straight from the get go since the establishment of the worker owned cooperative in 1985. Photographed below is one of their weekly created dinner specials. Slow roasted chicken in Adobo sauce with boiled redskin potatoes in a rolled enchilada topped with Monterey jack cheese and herbed sour cream. YUM!
