Cathy Barrow, a landscape designer by trade, and always an enthusiastic home cook, created Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Kitchen, a food blog where seasonal and locally sourced foods are the focus. Readers follow Cathy’s experiences cooking, baking, canning and preserving the freshest foods of the season, teaching cooking classes, and visiting local farmers and producers.
In January, 2011, Cathy and Kim Foster launched Charcutepalooza, a year long rollicking good time making charcuterie and sharing their experiences with nearly 400 bloggers around the world.
NPR’s Morning Edition featured Cathy in a segment on canning, the Washington Post food section profiled Cathy and Charcutepalooza, her Thanksgiving stuffing was featured on The Today Show, two of her recipes will be included in the upcoming Food52 cookbook, and a her Sour Cherry Pie has earned a blue ribbon for Overall Best Pie. Cathy lives and works in Washington, DC with her acupuncturist husband, Dennis, scruffy dog, Louie, and perfect white cat, Beans.
