Celebrating Our 30th Wedding Anniversary

Without a doubt money can’t buy love, and money certainly didn’t buy our 30 years of marriage. We’ve seen our share of good times and bad times. We’ve seen each other through health and sickness. We’ve seen money just-enough to sustain us and poverty enough to ensure devotion and humility. For our relationship to have lasted this long, we needed to quickly adapt a short memory and increase an endless supply of compassion and forgiveness. We also discovered that friendship is just as important as being lovers!

 Celebrating Our 30th Wedding Anniversary

I didn’t receive a pearl for my 30th wedding anniversary, but I did receive one of my heart’s desires. Having just moved into a new house, again for the hunteenth-time, and me really hating again the standard old short faucet, hubby took me to Home Depot to pick out a new one. It is beautiful; it is stainless steel, has a long neck, and the head pulls out, converting from spray to aerator.

My faucet, my gift, is installed and ready to use.

We’ve moved a lot in the past 13 years, and not by choice. But every home we’ve moved to my ever devoted Lancelot Knight tries to make me comfortable. He does his best to help me adjust to my new life and new surrounding and make it as user-friendly (“Nini-friendly”) as possible.

Hubby has always worn his heart for me on his sleeve.

Monday is our actual 30th Wedding Anniversary Day, but we are taking advantage of the weekend to celebrate, since Monday is a workday. Many would have booked a cruise or had celebrated with a big shabang, but we cannot afford something like that this year (yet another year), not with all the expenses of an unexpected move. But we did go to Red Lobster for brunch, and we had a wunderlicious good meal and time: wine and seafood pasta!

And at the end of our meal, our waitress, Crissy, an absolute sweet angel, surprised us with a dessert for two (after asking us if we were celebrating anything today, to which we replied, “Yes, but not something we want to be sung to!”). We shared a simple baked apple dumpling topped with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. All on Crissy!

After 30 years of marriage, we are still dreaming and planning for a Meditarrenean Cruise someday. We are not giving up on that dream, no matter what!

Food for thought:  As a young woman in my 20’s and even 30’s, I would have never believed that today in my 50’s I would have been so ecstatic to have received a kitchen faucet for my anniversary. But here I am today and am thrilled with my gift! Go figure?

Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary Virginia. You are luckier than the lady living in a 20 room mansion. You are more blessed than a bucket load of 1%'ers. Here's to your gorgeous new faucet and 30+ more years of your lovely marriage!

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

Jane Collins I wish I could have taken a video of the smile that slowly but surely began spreading on my face, Jane, as I savored reading your comment. "You are more blessed than a bucket load of 1%'ers." And then you made me laugh. What lovely words you have gifted me with this morning. Thank you, dear, dear friend!

I sure hope you will be going to one of the upcoming BlogHer conference so we can be friends in real life! :)

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

I just read your comment to my hubby, and he said, with a BIG smile, "I'd love for us to go to one of those conferences!" LOL! Jane Collins

I guess I don't pay much attention, Jane, but when is the next one? Is there a link that will give me all the detail? Maybe, just maybe, I can see about attending my first. I am most anxious to meet a few of the Ladies, but very eager to meet you. :)

Laughing - A kitchen faucet can be a beautiful thing! I loved reading about your relationship with your Sir Lancelot. Happy Anniversary.

So terrific! Congratulations on being happily married after 30 years. I am at 21 1/2 years and its better than ever. There's something to be said for sticking with it through good and bad, isn't there?

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

sharongreenthal Oh, yes, it sure is. And like I said, we've seen a lot of bad times, but we were able to cling to each and give support. Phew, but that's a lot of years to face together. :)

By the way, congratulations to you, too, 21 years is a worthy number.

Thank you for the visit, Sharon!

Happy anniversary! And enjoy your new faucet! The previous owners of our house installed one of those long-neck faucets, and it is extremely convenient to have.

Getting in your celebration when you can, why not? Brunch sounds fun, and I bet (I hope) it was pretty quiet at Red Lobster that time of day.

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

LetThemEatGreat Actually, it was very quiet at that hour. And I really do love my faucet, it is so easy and convenient to use. That same afternoon my hubby hung my rack for hanging pots too. Now I just need to finish unpacking the rest of my boxes. Phew! (I don't feel like doing it though. lol!)

feelingbeachie 106 pts

happy anniversary! Isn't it amazing at how a household fixture can bring such happiness?

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

feelingbeachie Happiness from owning a kitchen faucet. I am shocked! I know that would not have brought me happiness in the beginning of our marriage. lol! But I guess times have changed; I really do enjoy being in the kitchen now. Go figure?!

happy anniversary! 30 years, woot! was the cake good?

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

KarenLynnn No cake. It is a weeknight and everyone works tomorrow, and we are all kind of broke.... Just another sob story here! But now that you mention it, I think we'll pick up cupcakes from the store. Do you think Ding Dongs will go with champagne? LOL!

KarenLynnn 993 pts

HomeRearedChef eww no, don't eat ding dongs, make something! something chocolate and creamy. ,my new glasses will be ready this week so i can tell a cake from a cookie and ice cream. cute cute dessert :)

You are so far from "broke". Lancelot bought you something you wanted, that you could use everyday and that would make you smile. If he had bought you roses, they'd be dead and gone in a week. His gift will not be. All of the rocky things you guys have endured would have broke the backs and heart of many, yet there you are....celebrating a true love. You are far from "broke"....you are surrounded by riches, my dear friend.

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

Reda Dearest Friend, I am rich with love and affection, aren't I? And now I have a kitchen faucet I am sooo in-love with. LOL! "Ain't that grand?!" :)

It's the small things my husband does for me that are the greatest. I just like to know I'm being thought of! Happy Anniversary!

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

Laine Griffin Indeed, it is the small things that really count and say it all. I so hope and wish with all my heart that he and I may see our 50th. It is not impossible. Here we just need to keep our health in check!

First of all, happy anniversary!

I too get annoyed by standard short faucets. We picked out a new faucet for the kitchen sink (which sounds very similar to yours). I went away to a conference and when I came back it had been installed! I like it when that happens.

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

sassymonkey It is a most wonderful feeling, I imagine. You come back home to find something you've really wanted just suddenly and magically there. Oh-yeah!

And thank you very much for the happy anniversary wishes. I am still taking it all in. I really never thought I'd make it this far. As a young woman, one who needed desperately to "grow up," I would have never imagined being with someone this long. But hubby has been the best thing to ever happen in my life. :)

isthisthemiddle 1067 pts

The faucet is a great gift-- we who cook have to have our sink in order! I love practical gifts, just as long as it isn't a new vacuum cleaner.

The seafood chowder sounds divine. You will get your Med cruise, I know you will.

Many congratulations on 30 years of love. Huge hugs to you and Lancelot!

So with you! As for the vacuum, I am really lucky to have a hubby who cleans, his Christmas gift several years ago was a vacuum. Which he picked out and will demo to anyone who visits! It is a Miele, compact German design. He loves it! I know, I am very lucky to have a man that cleans! Cheers!

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

cookingwithkary How so VERY cool, Kary! I just now told Melanie that my hubby does the vacuuming too. And that is why he picked out the vacuum of his choice last year. LOL!

Very luck we are, indeed!

SunbonnetSmart.com 626 pts

HomeRearedChefcookingwithkary I would definitely encourage him to pick out the vacuum he wants....along with any attachments that strike his fancy! What a guy!

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

SunbonnetSmart.com If I can have my kitchen faucet he can have his vacuum! :)

isthisthemiddle 1067 pts

cookingwithkary Guard that one-- he is a gem! Now a vacuum that someone else uses, that I can throw my support behind!

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

isthisthemiddlecookingwithkary "a vacuum that someone else uses, that I can throw my support behind!" OMG, Melanie, you are killing me here, Amiga. LOL!

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

isthisthemiddle The kitchen faucet was for me, yes, and last year hubby picked up his fancy vacuum cleaner, the Dyson. See, I was dishes, and he has for many years now done the laundry and vacuuming of the house. I cook during the week, and we cook together on weekends. Very cool, eh?! :)

BIG, HUGE crushing hugs, mi querida Amiga Melanie!

isthisthemiddle 1067 pts

HomeRearedChef Oh, my gosh, no wonder you are celebrating 30 years. You divided and conquered the chores! My hubby definitely pushes the vacuum more than I do, and the kitchen is MINE. Cooking together on weekends is splendid! xoxo

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

isthisthemiddle "You divided and conquered the chores!" You come up with the greatest things to say, Amiga...usted es una mujer muy especial! :)

KarenLynnn 993 pts

isthisthemiddle i would take a dyson. haha! :)

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

KarenLynnn I really don't see the big deal about a Dyson, (sorry!), but hubby really loves it! He said, "well, fine, I'll use it and do the vacuuming!" Hey, that's fine by me. LOL!

Am I a sneaky and naughty wife? :)

elaineR.N. 540 pts

There are many people who would gladly forgo the fancy vacations for a loving caring spouse and 30 years of joy. Money can't buy that for sure. A very happy anniversary to you and your husband -- and many, many, many more!!

HomeRearedChef 1618 pts

elaineR.N. Hi Elaine! And didn't you just celebrate an anniversary as well? Or is it coming up? But I believe Happy Anniversary to you, too, are in order as well. ;)

Like I said, I am SOOO happy with my kitchen faucet. And hubby as well installed my ceiling pot rack, which we've also taken with us throughout all our moves too. Does this make me a Kitchen Nerd? LOL!

Much love and BIG hugs, dearest friend!
