Charge on!!!

Several weeks ago a friend sent an email instructing me to take off my high heels and put on my combat boots.  It is an idea that has been on my mind constantly.  God is constantly leading me to see we are called to be IN the BATTLE.  He tells us to put on the whole armor of God.  Why?  So we can stand against the enemy IN the battle.

Life lesson:  Get IN the battle!

I sense a new urgency.  If this is a battle and we are told how to prepare for battle, why are we so seldom on the battlefield?  I think God gave me clear insight to part of our struggle.  It is like this:

A well-bodied, fit, trained soldier is preparing to go into battle.  He goes into the weapons room to choose his sword.  He looks over all the swords, studies their weight and design.  He tests the blades, carefully examining every edge.  He moves slowly from sword to sword, pondering each of the weapons.  He wants to choose the right sword because this is an important battle.

While the well-able soldier stays in the weapons room preparing for the battle,  he makes great friends with other soldiers who are also scrutinizing the swords.  They all spend a lot of time talking about what great warriors they will be on the battlefield.  Some of the older soldiers tell stories of battles they fought in the past.  Minute by minute, day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year they plan, they talk, they scrutinize, they inspect…but they never engage.  They never do battle. All the while, the enemy is busy at work in the battlefield.  The preparation room has become a dungeon; while the battle rages with all the well-able soldiers making amazing plans to be impactful soldiers in the battle….

One of the greatest strategies or schemes of the enemy has been to keep the modern church out of the battle BY keeping us so busy preparing for the battle.  When I read Ephesians 6, I sense the armor was put on quickly as the battle was immediate.  I am certain this is a great checkpoint for our lives today.

Checkpoint Questions:  Am I IN the battle?

  1. Am I getting attacked, bumped, bruised, and challenged?
  2. Can I see the arrows of the devil?
  3. Is it necessary for me to use the word of God as a sharp sword ready for the enemy?
  4. Do I feel the constant call and need to stand on truth?
  5. Am I standing firm, or am I tossed two and fro without strength?
  6. Am I clothed in God’s righteousness, knowing my own goodness will fail me?
  7. Am I holding up the shield of faith because doubts and questions are hurled my way?
  8. Does my mind firmly hold to the salvation God has promised?
  9.  Will I be missed by anyone if I leave the battlefield?

Ephesians 6  Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.  Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere
