Charity - Done Oddly in Texas
By Meeshie on December 03, 2013
Texas officially has the World's Largest Gingerbread House. They even have a Facebook page devoted to it, if you feel like peeking at it. There is a price for viewing it in person and that money goes to charity.
Giving charity is a good thing. Helping those less fortunate than yourself is good for you and can even be viewed as a method of paying it forward. After all, some day you might need help. If there is any time of the year that is devoted to doing well by your fellow man it is the Christmas/Winter season.
With all that said, I think the gingerbread house is horrifyingly wrong. There are better ways of gathering charity money. Wasting 1800 pounds of butter, 7200 eggs, 7200 pounds of flour, and over 3000 pounds of brown sugar seems like an awful way to start a charity. The food that was created with all that might be used to feed pigs, according to the articles. It could have been used to feed the hungry, instead. Imagine the amount of pancakes that might have made.
So, if you want to give? Give to a food bank in your area. Go help at a soup kitchen. Feed people. People starve to death every single day in our world. Feed your community. And if you've done that and want to help more?
Give a gift to a village. Give a goat, or a steer, or honey bees.
Or don't. Really.. it's up to you. But don't waste what other people are dying for lack of. Don't dance around a cool candy house while children die for lack of calories and nutrients. Just... don't.
