I use the Blue Sky Resume Guide by Louise Fletcher.  It rocks!

I do that, too, of course, but applying to jobs directly is still the Monday morning backbone of job hunting for me.  :)  After I apply for a job, I research if I have any connections at the company and work my contacts that way as well.

BTW, if you need help with a resume or cover letter, see publications by Michael Farr, he's one of the best. I feature his books on my blog.

Better yet: find 10 people to network with who are working, give them your resume to pass to the hiring manager. 80% get jobs this way.
