Hello, BlogHer World! I haven't posted for months, but now I'm back and very happy to be writing for BlogHer again. I'm rebuilding my blog feeds, so if you know of any - big or small - blogs by women living in Latin America or who are Latina and blogging from anywhere in the world, please email me at liz@bookmaniac.net with links or introductions.

Last year I linked up to Turca when she moved to a new house, and I think she was starting to meet up with other blogging moms in Buenos Aires. It's been a while since I've read her! Now her blogroll is full of natural childbirth and midwifery links as well as links to other fascinating bloggers like Jime of Una mas Uno Tres y más también. Jime, I love your post on the comments people make on your daughter's eyes, and the video of your kids playing in a mud puddle! Jime points out that people's well-meaning compliments often imply, or teach children by inference, that looks (specifically having unusual green eyes) are the most important thing. She and her commenters notice the way that fair skinned children get more approval from adults and strangers than their darker or brown eyed children get. As an antidote, she offers this page of The Little Prince. Después de ser Mamá is more informal and silly, mixing casual jokes and comments with reviews of educational toys and drawings and songs by her 2 year old son. If you like thoughtful explorations of childraising and parenthood, read Turca, Jime, and friends -- and explore their blogrolls.
From those explorations, I can see that this little slice of blogging moms of Buenos Aires are into yoga, doing crafts with kids, crochet and knitting, spirituality, and, well, taking photos and videos of their kids! It's interesting how many links, especially links on childbirth information as political information, are shared. For example, Ser Parteras is a site that looks very new; it's for midwives, mothers in favor of midwifery. "The community should know that for healthy labor and delivery, they need respect, privacy, influence, and freedom." Partolibre also advocates various alternative or natural childbirth methods -- childbirth without violence, water birth, home birth, and so on. And here's a breastfeeding sit-in for World Breastfeeding Week (Here's the World Breastfeeding Week site in English).
There are other very common shared links. As I noticed last year, a ton of Latin American bloggers use YouTube (and they were using it before it was widespread in the U.S.) Lots of women are linking to Lilypie for headers and badges in Spanish, Evoca for quick, free voice posts and recordings, and.... this isn't a web tool, but a great resource, Mamá Sol, a forum for single moms in Argentina.
