Our little fluff ball chickies of less than two months ago are already mini-chickens!

5 days old, name: "chick chick"

7 weeks old, "chick chick"

Really, I've been kicking myself for not taking more pictures...but alas, life has been full to the brim. In this first year of living in our new home there has been lots to do. Cutting wood, re-locating mice, avoiding and cleaning up mold, blocking and sealing off drafty doorways and windows.... Well, you get the picture.

And documenting the chicks has been last on the list. Or at least way down there. That said, I still wanted to share a bit about what we've done. Because, just as it so often is, these chicks have surprised me.

They have been so much simpler to raise and keep then I would have ever guessed. And I know that chickens are becoming a somewhat stylish "pet" these days. Stylish in a utilitarian sense, anyhow.

So, in the next few weeks I'll share bits of our process. Pre-coop arrangements. Coop set-ups. Feed. Etc. And if you're thinking of getting some of those spring chicks before they're all sold out, maybe you'll just go ahead with it already.

So anyone else got chicks or chickens out there? And if so, what's your favorite part of having them?

Biggest surprise for our family was the "pet" aspect - they have so much more personality then I expected, and little individual personalities. Have fun decorating your poultry palace :)
