Celebrating Easter with my family is one of my favorite days all year. I love the touch of warmth in the air and the feeling of new life all around us. Hosting Easter lunch after church is a big tradition for our family. Todd and the grandfathers hide Easter eggs while the grandmothers and I put the finishing touches on the food. Then we watch the boys go on their Easter egg hunt. And afterward, we come in and sit down for a delicious lunch. I love the excuse to create a tablescape and a holiday is the perfect excuse!...more
It's spring in Kentucky which means only one thing, it's Derby Time!! I know that you've heard me say it before, but Derby time in Kentucky is one of my most favorite times of the year. There are loads of great activities for families and the whole city puts on a great show to welcome everyone to town. We have had a Kentucky Derby Party several times - it's usually very kid friendly and casual. This year I was inspired to plan something a bit more fancy, and have been pinning Kentucky Derby Party ideas like a mad woman....more
There is just something about gathering with friends in the spring sunshine that is so appealing, isn't there? I was chatting with a couple girlfriends recently about getting our summer gardens started and one of them proposed that we share seeds. Our conversation was interrupted by the kiddos (doesn't that always happen?) and I drove home reflecting on the unfinished conversation. A seed had been planted in my party-loving heart and over the following weeks, the idea for a seed exchange party developed....more
So I hosted a fun get together at my house recently. I called it a "Wine and Cheese Crafternoon." Sounds catchy, huh? I came up with the idea as I wanted a reason to get a few of my crafty friends together to chit-chat and create minus our littles as it's pretty tough to get to do any type of crafting with kids and, since evenings are so hard to work around these days with bedtime routines and our husbands' work schedules, a Crafternoon party was born!...more
I love spring. I think it might just be my favorite season. The sun comes out, the skies are blue and there is a lot of green happening in the garden. It energizes me and totally puts me in the mood to entertain. One of my favorite holidays in the spring is Easter. I love everything about Easter: the reason we celebrate, the spring flowers, the pretty dyed Easter eggs, bunnies, chicks, all the pretty pastel colors, a new Easter outfit (yes, I still buy myself a new outfit!!), and of course the candy the Easter Bunny brings....more
Spring is almost here! I can see the bulbs pushing through the ground just in time for Easter and this change in season has given me fresh ideas for two very special parties I've been dreaming up during the past wintery month. I've been busy pinning a ton of these party ideas to my Spring Entertaining Board on Pinterest, but if my pins are not enough inspiration for you, check out this awesome board by the Chinet® brand here. The first event I am planning is right around the corner (next week to be exact) – Atlas' first birthday!...more
Do you have that one chore that you simply detest? For me, it's washing the dishes. I would rather iron every single one of my husband's shirts with military precision than do dishes. Especially baking dishes. I bake all the time, and after the preparation and assembly and decoration, the last thing I want to do is dive into a sink of batter bowls, dried frosting tips, and sticky crumbly side plates....more
