Chink in the Stands, an Asian-American Fan's Notes
Jen Wang grew up in the heart of white America in the 70s and 80s, as did I. Her snippets about life as an Asian-American are at once heartbreaking and intimate. As someone who also lived through this (and can actually say "the exact thing happened to me!"), I feel it is important for people to know that behind our strong, self-confident personas today, there lies a deep hurt that will never fully heal. This isn't a post that is only relevant to Asian Americans. It speaks to anyone who has ever felt excluded, disregarded, or inferior, and has had to "put it behind them" to move on.
