Eating chocolate can make those nasty pimples go away. At least that's what the people at Frutels, LLC are saying.
Not surprisingly, this new chocolate nutraceutical that claims to clear up acne has some dermatologists up in arms.
Frutels says its chocolate delivers an acne-fighting nutritional formula that works against the main causes of acne: hormones, diet and stress.
Needless to say, this flies directly in the face of what dermatologists have long argued - that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of acne.
According to Frutels, cultures with little to no sugar in their diets have much lower incidences of acne. Therefore, Frutels chocolates are sugar-free and have a mystery nutritional formula designed to treat the internal causes of acne.
People with mild acne are supposed to take two Frutels each day; those with moderate acne should take three to four; and those with severe acne should take five a day.
It remains to be seen if Frutels really works, but their own in-house research shows that 73 percent of people saw positive results in two weeks or sooner.
I can't see much of any downside to eating chocolate to treat acne - after all, most people can't get enough of chocolate.
However, if Frutels doesn't do as promised, it's rather expensive chocolate. A "normal 60-day supply" of eight boxes of Frutels (with 14 chocolates per box) is $68.95 - an average of $0.62 per chocolate. With severe acne, you'd be spending just under $100 per month.
With those kinds of claims and prices, it's no wonder dermatologists' feathers are a bit ruffled. Would you try a chocolate therapy for acne?
