Christmas Shopping With Children - Yikes
by jellybabys

One of the more enjoyable (and also potentially most frustrating) aspects of the holiday season is taking your child christmas shopping to buy presents for other family members. For example, it is a nice practice to take your child along to but a gift for the other parent and so forth. With this in mind, there are some suggestions that you will want to consider when it comes to preparing for and taking your child holiday shopping.

The most fundamental factor that you need to keep in mind is that you need to make sure that your child has reached an appropriate age to go shopping. The fact is that a fairly young child can manage participating in a shopping trip. But, again, you need to make certain that you child has both the attention span and the ability to make his or her way a shopping jaunt with you.

Before heading off holiday gift shopping with your child, you need to make certain that your child perfectly understand that the intent of the trip is to buy a gift for someone else and is not an occasion for your child to shop for his or her self.

You will want to keep the entire shopping trip to a reasonable amount of time. You have to understand that children have short attention spans and do tire more easily. The bottom line is that you might want to select one store for the christmas shopping trip with your child.

Before heading off on a christmas shopping trip with a child, you will want to sit down with your child and do some advance shopping planning. You can visit with your child about what he or she would like to purchase for the other parent or for another family member. In addition, you need to set a budget upfront. You will want to layout specifically the amount of money that your child will have available to spend on the gift so there is no confusion or problems when you are out shopping for a holiday gift.

Also in advance of the shopping trip (but depending on the age of the child) you might want to have the child set aside part of his or her allowance to help pay for the costs of the gift. Of course, you likely will have to contribute more to the cost of the gift. However, having your child spend some time saving at least some money for the holiday gift can be a very instructive and useful endeavor that will benefit your child well into the future.

Finally, as part of the shopping trip, you may want to make time for a snack break or an enjoyable meal. Such a stop will make the entire shopping trip a happy adventure, a great experience on many different levels. You will turn what might otherwise be a rather routine shopping trip into a memory making experience.
