A Christmas of smaller proportions and when family treats you like a child

This is the first Holiday that we have had in this new shifted perspective.  Not that we haven't had lean Christmases in the past.  But, we were students then and they were to be expected.  Now, we thought that each Christmas was to get a bit better than the last.   Given the news that I keep hearing, I suspect I am not alone in saying that this is not the grandest Christmas ever in the way of gift-giving.

Really, that isn't what is causing this post.  I wanted to vent a bit about those who try to tell you that you can't buy them things becuase you don't have the money.  Hmmm, since when am I an 8 year old.  Last time I checked I managed the budget very well, and I wouldn't have asked for the children's lists if I didn't have the money or desire to buy them something.

My personal example was children in my extended family.   We were told that the children have been informed that this year has been hard for us and that they are not to expect anything.  Then we were refused a Christmas list.  Really.  I wasn't trying to buy a playstation 3 or anything, but I wanted to get them something from us.

Please trust me to be able to pick something from the list that I can afford.  I don't feel pressured, I want to give, and this Christmas I want to know that I have made people happy, since there are so many that aren't.  So the next time you find yourself starting to tell this to someone you know has had a hard time of it, please think again.  If they have asked for a Christmas list, they want to give a gift.  Just make sure that it isn't all from the Neiman Marcus Catalog, okay.

I hope that everyone is finding ways to cope through this downsized Christmas.  We are buying a new grill as our Christmas gift to eachother as our old grill has gone to meet its grill maker.  Not as much fun right now, but come summer it will be.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.
