Body Impolitic takes Erica Jong and Judith Thurman to task for their fat-photic remarks about Colette.
Laurie and Debbie, the co-authors of the post, quote part of an interview from a biography by Thurman, and then comment:
"This whole exchange infuriates both of us. How dare they claim that Colette wasn't gorgeous? And how dare they even imply, let alone state, that you have to be extraordinarily sexy to overcome being fat? What's with these two contemporary women trying to put one of the sexiest women of her time on a diet?"

Thus Spake Zuska links back to previous posts of hers, as well as external links, in supporting her advice that "Women Should Boycott Fermilab". She uses hyperbolie to great effect in her persuasive conclusion:
"Women are choking to death in America's national laboratories and university research labs. And as they drop to the floor, men around them pick up the research findings that fall from their listless hands and say, 'Thank you! This is just what I was looking for.' Then they step over the bodies and walk on."
Australian blogger Kristy of K Blog begins a 12 week course on domestic violence and shares her thoughts in "Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault". She brings up a good point:
"I've just started a subject at uni with that exact title. Apparently its the only class on this subject at a university in all of Victoria. Perhaps in all of aus, but not sure about that. Either way though it's insane considering how prevalent it is. It just goes to show how much of a taboo it is, discussing such a topic."
Kristy also cites statistics from CASA House (Centre Against Sexual Assault), located in Melbourne, Australia.

This is depressing.
Sad day when women who should KNOW better, apparently don't.
