From the Comfort of your Favorite Chair
By TheBigChangeProject on December 07, 2013
Passive fundraising, a.k.a. Lounge-Chair giving, requires little or no effort. It is a fantastic way for your community to benefit greatly from just a small change in habit or by simply directing local and national retailers to designate a portion of your purchases to support your organization. It costs you nothing!
Whether you join Safeway’s eScrip program or the Target REDcard Take Charge for Education program, a portion of your sale will be given back to your designated group automatically. Passive fundraising also includes Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education as well as dine-outs, parent night-outs, and other activities or businesses that offer profit sharing.
The most important aspect of passive fundraising is getting the word out to your organization and to your surrounding community. As in any fundraising effort, the key to success is support and participation. Passive fundraising is yet another option for individuals to support an organization without necessarily having to purchase something they may or may not need (see our past post about the difference between a fundraising "sale and a fundraising "offer"). By simply going about your day and doing the things you would normally do or purchasing things you always buy, you can make a big difference in your community or your favorite organization.
