Coming Up On Backtalk, Call For Submissions
by chris

We're talking about sex, baby.

In Episode 3, TMI- Too Much Information, we are talking about sex and the mommyblogger. Some of us never write about sex, some of us write about it frequently and with great detail. It is after all what got us into the mommy(blogger) predicament in the first place.

But we wonder... how much is too much to share? What do you feel comfortable putting out there? I share a story that happened recently that I chose not to blog... except whoops, now I have blabbed about it on video.

Some of my favorite moms share the worst pregnancy comments they have ever gotten. You know the ones. The worst comment I had was by the wife of a former boss of my husband. We were at a party and she grabbed me and turned me around and said, "Wow, your ass is SO HUGE you must be having a girl." In front of a room full of people. And then she kept saying versions of that same thing all night long to everyone who walked near me. I told her that if in fact I did have a girl that I would forgive her. Surprisingly, I had a girl, but turns out I am still annoyed!

We are hard at work on upcoming episodes and we’d love to feature you, your blogs, and your video! You can upload your video right here on BlogHer's video page or use any other video sharing service and leave us the link.

Here are a few questions for you to think about…

What do you love about your kid's school? What do you hate? What do you think about the state of our education system right now? We want your rants, your raves, and your no-holds-barred opinions! Do you homeschool? What made you chose that path?

How is the economy affecting your family? Are you or your spouse out of a job? Are you saving in the event that one of you gets laid off down the road? Are you feeling anxiety or powerlessness over what's going on?

For those of you with one child, what are the most insensitive remarks people have made about your decision to have "just one?" On the flip side, for those of you with large families, what are some of the stupidest things people have said to you about your brood? Why does family size matter so much to perfect strangers? (OH BOY, do I have a lot to say about this!)

Leave us a link if you have written recently on any of these topics, or get that webcam working! We are use to reading your words, now we would love to hear them!

Thoughts on the school system

The 4th Frog
The one who jumped...

I have a 6yo ds who has sensory processing disorder. He's in kindergarten this year and we've been chasing down the school system to get him evaluated for services. This experience has left me emotional, defensive and needy all at the same time. I've blogged about it twice -- once when filling out the evaluations which made me feel like my son might be a freak and once after the case conference when they conceded that yes, he does have some issues, but sorry we can't help you.

You can read my entries here:

Family Size

The comment I received on family size was from a lady with three children, who very self-rightously proclaimed "Three children are the most anyone needs.  No one should have more than three children."  I told her I was pregnant three times, she was pregnant three times.  Which child should I give back?

You see, I have twins.

Me? Backtalk?

I do more than my share of riffing on the public education system ... if only our school district didn't give me so much fodder ....

I haven't found the courage to write about the economy yet, really ... afraid to jinx myself??

The economy is messing with my baby makin'
plans!

Well, you asked about the economy. I've written a few posts on this topic. I didn't go into much detail about the topic because... Well this was BEFORE my husband knew about my blog and I was trying not to be too detailed. But he's since found out and I may write a part 3 about how it's really hurting me personally.

Sex, Passion and Romance: isn't that what
it's all about?

It's remarkable how many women put up with less than wonderful sexual lives. In my Pleasure Party business I am continually reminded that the two things we are not taught about growing up: Parenting and Sexuality, are the two things we are all supposed to be experts at.

These is a recent post about how we are around relationships:

Here is my vlog in response to the TMI discussion.

I have seen more sex talk on Mom blogs lately. And as far as I am concerned as long as it is not too raunchy, blab away!

Education

www.mothersraisingboys.com

As far as my kids school, I'm happy. It's a big school, but I feel like they make each classroom small enough that the children receive a good amoount of individual attention. What concerns me is the current educational system in terms of how it goes against the way boys learn.

I wrote about this here:http://www.mothersraisingboys.com/?p=7

and http://www.mothersraisingboys.com/?p=196

What I hate about your kid's school is all the rules that seem to prevent the children who excel or fail to from being noticed. Everything is fair in a way that, in my opinion, has the potential to demotivate. (see above article on this)

Regarding the state of our education, I think we are in trouble, at least our boys are anyways and it concerns me. Not all children are perfect little soldiers marching through life. I find it hypocritical that the system celebrates our differences in some ways, but shuns against noticing differences when the possibility of disappointment might become an issue.

How is this approach preparing our children for life's struggles or disappointments both personally and professionally? We can't hold our children's hands forever.
