Conference Corner: Speaker Introductions at the Beginning of Each Panel

If you’ve ever attended a BlogHer event, attended a session online through our Virtual Conference feature, or read through a session transcript in our Live Blog section, you may have asked yourself: Why don’t speakers introduce themselves more thoroughly? I want to know more about their background, their expertise, where they blog, and why they’re on this panel!
Truth be told, they don’t give a bio because BlogHer asks them not to. That’s not to say they dive into the conversation without any sort of introduction -- that would just be awkward! -- they share their names, and sometimes their websites. But when it comes to sharing a full bio, you’ll generally hear the panel’s moderator refer you to BlogHer’s speaker page. The speaker page is accessible through any given conference’s landing page, and includes both a photograph and full biography for each speaker.
BlogHer prefers this format because it allows the session to devote the full 75-minute allotment to discussing the topic at hand. If each speaker spent even just five minutes talking about themselves (when their bio is already printed online and in our online conference guide), that would use about a third of the available session time.
Every minute is precious to us, and we know it is to you, too! By limiting full introductions, BlogHer helps panels make the most of the time they have.

Would you like to submit a question to be answered by the Events team? What would you like to know about BlogHer events before attending your first conference? If you’re a veteran, what do you wish you had known beforehand? Or, perhaps you’re an introverted veteran attendee ... are there are things you *still* wish you knew, despite the number of conferences you’ve attended? I’d love to know!
About the Conference Corner: The Conference Corner is a weekly series about BlogHer events. Whether you’re a BlogHer newbie or BlogHer veteran, we hope you’ll gain some new insight in this segment!
