Conference Corner: The Writing - Pitch & Publish Track at BlogHer '13

To help with your BlogHer '13 planning, I'm walking through each of the tracks of programming, one-by-one. As I explained in the overall conference demystifying post, we have four different session styles, and each track of programming includes a mix of those -- making sure there is something for every style of learner!

We've already broken down both Marketing & Monetization tracks, both Tools & Technology tracks, the Photo & Video track, the Interest & Identity track, and the Politics & Activism track. Now we're continuing into the Writing – Pitch & Publish track!

Where it will be: McCormick Place

What you can expect: The Writing – Pitch & Publish track will teach you how to take your writing to the next level. Whether you want to better understand writing fundamentals or use your blog as a pitch platform for magazines, webzines, and publishers, this track is for you.

Friday:

  • In the first 30-minutes of programming, learn the subtle differences between your blog posts and publishable essays, and discover how to make that shift in your writing.

  • After a short break, we take a close-up look at printed word's funny bone. Learn the science and art behind humor writing from some of the online community's leading humorists.

  • Friday afternoon is all about the pitch. Whether you want to pitch your work to a periodical or a book publisher, these two 40-minute workshops will give you the inside scoop you need to meet your goals. Note: These workshops repeat on Saturday AM.

Saturday:

  • Start your Saturday with a repeat of Friday PM's 90-minute pitch workshops. Learn the ins and outs of pitching from bloggers who've successfully pitched periodicals and book publishers.

  • After lunch on Saturday, we examine what's under the skin of a great story. Learn the universal elements of storytelling that will give your stories the structure and muscle they need to thrive.

  • Saturday PM closes with a repeat of Friday AM's 30-minute post-to-essay workshop. You'll learn how to transform your great blog post into a publishable essay.
