People don't commit to the craziness of NaBloPoMo for the prizes any more than people commit to running a marathon for the cool t-shirt. You join NaBloPoMo for the glory! For the writing skills improvement! For the community! Okay, but let's all admit it, the prizes are pretty damn cool.
Tomorrow, the blogroll closes and the prize drawing begins. People have complained about the numbered list this year, but it's somewhat impossible to do categories and use the random number generator. Each night, we'll enter the final participant number (after we comb the blogroll for duplicate entries) and have it spit out a winner. I'll be checking that winner's blog to make sure they're actually blogging daily, and then email them to let them know that they've won one of the fantastic prizes. What are the prizes?
- Monday – BlogHer ’12 conference pass
- Tuesday – Books from Penguin
- Wednesday – $50 Visa gift card
- Thursday – Books from Penguin
- Friday – Melissa Ford’s Life From Scratch (a novel about blogging)
- Saturday – Susan Getgood’s Professional Blogging for Dummies (a book about blogging)
- Sunday – Eden Kennedy and Alice Bradley's Let’s Panic About Babies!
When I email you as a winner, I will send a document that you need to sign and fax back before we can distribute your prize. And then the whole thing starts all over the next day. Every day is a prize for the month of November, which means we're actually choosing 5 winners on the 5th after the blogroll closes to make up for lost time while the blogroll was in flux.
These prizes are just a thank you for participating in this big blogging celebration; for writing for writing's sake and doing it as a community. You deserve to be celebrated and showered with gifts for taking on the task of daily blogging.
You can access a complete copy of the official NaBloPoMo prize rules right here.
Melissa writes Stirrup Queens and Lost and Found. Her novel about blogging is Life from Scratch.
