I Left BlogHer '13 Feeling Like a Loser, but Maybe I'm Just on My Own Path

I left BlogHer '13 feeling like a loser. This was not the fault of the hardworking women who organized and led the event. BlogHer is the world's largest blogging conference for women and I felt quite privileged to have had the opportunity to travel to Chicago for this year's event, which was held July 25-27. The breakout sessions were informative and to call the keynote speakers inspiring would be an understatement. I was in awe of the confidence of Ree Drummond (better known as the Pioneer Woman) and can't count how many times she made me laugh out loud. ...more

10 More Bloggers Share their BlogHer '13 Moments

What's the one thing I've been seeing time and time again in the recap posts from our BlogHer '13 attendees? Mention of connection in one way or another. Sometimes it's hard won. Sometimes it's a reminder that good people still exist. Sometimes it's about our readers, or our own family members, or ourselves and our writing. But connections were made this year. ...more

The Pioneer Woman at BlogHer '13: On Being a Blogger, Writer, Photographer, & Mother

After taking the stage Friday morning, Ree looked nervously at the wide open stage space, hovering to one side, as she jokingly pleaded for her long time gal pals and BlogHer founders, to not leave her alone. Ree wasn’t afraid to appear vulnerable, telling us, “I am not a public speaker, folks,” and winning the audience over by publicly declaring her Spanx discomfort. At that very moment, I too sat squirming in Spanx, and I suspect Ree would have been overwhelmed by the show of Spanx solidarity, if only she had queried the audience. ...more

Traveling to BlogHer '13 Was a Journey I Needed to Make

I sat down in the cab taking me away from the Chicago Sheraton and the BlogHer '13 Conference, and I wanted to cry.
